2020 GLE 350 SUV Easy Entry and Exit
Here is the position the car seat is set for easy entry/exit:
With my normal driving position (automatic position with 5'4" with few minor adjustment), the seat back tilt forward (just a little) while the seat move back.
With the driving position of the seat back identical (or very close) to the position above, the seat only move back. Seat back did not adjust.
With the driving position of the seat back tilted forward (almost at 90 degree), the seat still only move back (but the seat back does not move)
So I think the Mercedes's logic is that it only tilt the seat forward if when the seat is move back, and the seat back does not clear the B-pillar. If the seat back will clear the B-pillar when the seat moves back, it does not move it.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
It is also not "already in the most forward position" as I can still tilt the seat back forward more after the easy entry/exit position.
For myself, its not an issue, but some people finds it weird to have the seat tilted forward, as it creates less room by tilting the seat forward (for the driver)
I might add that this is more annoying if you're taller than 5'-4" and specially if you own a GLE53 AMG Coupe as the roof is lower than the regular GLE. I'm only 5'-8" and have to bend down even lower when the seatback is tilted forward upon entering. Better to just turn it off and just use the function that tilts the steering wheel up.

I wouldn't say the car is overwhelming, but there is so much stuff that I can't remember it all and I just want it to work and just deal with the stuff that is important to me.
yes, it absolutely works backwards than as it should. I like many forum members have had many MB cars and SUVs and know exactly how it should work, I have had ate latest updates done all to no avail. One of the most fun things is to listen to the service people try to explain how it “ works as it should”. Most of them sold shoes 6 months ago anyway.
when I took delivery of the car 3 salesman and the service manager all tried to get it to work, until the rather large service manager got squeezed between the seat back and wheel, he actually was trapped until I hit the seat controls to free him. Too much fun
