GLE53 Owners

Any GLE53 owners here? Specifically those who chose the GLE350/450/580 over it? Would love to hear from anyone who switched from a 450 to a 53.

Have a 450 on order that is scheduled to go into production first decade in September, but thinking I might want to switch it up to the 53.

I moved to a GLE 53 from a 450 purchased in April 2019. Other than looks and a few more nice options they are similar-except the suspension upgrade to ARC/Brakes set them apart driving aggressively. The engine has a more Power but particularly feels stronger, (more torque) very noticeable on low end.

I came from a 2018 43AMG to just arrived 2021 53AMG so I am an AMG fan. I particularly love the red & black leather and the carbon fiber interior. Those two items are not available in the other models. I like "bling!!".

Ron! Just the man I was hoping to run into. I remember seeing your red GLE53 but couldn’t remember your name, ugh. Can I send you a private message? Have so many questions for you!

Hi @julie90 I had a 2020 GLE450 with E-ABC, put 3,000 miles on it before trading to a '21 GLE53, with the Dynamic Package - pretty loaded. I also spent a thousand miles in a '20 GLE350 and a base 450 while my 450 was in the shop,

They are different cars. The 450 is more luxurious, got better fuel economy than the 350's four cylinder, but still retained some of the tippy, boatlike feeling that carried over from the old chassis (W166).
The 53 reduces the tippy feeling and eliminates it with the Dynamic Plus. It also loses about 6 - 8 mpg, because of the instant power that the supercharger adds. The seats are sportier, and there are more selections for vehicle dynamics and displays.

Either (450 or 53) is fun to drive in its own right, and a huge improvement over the aforementioned W166 chassis. If you have ever driven another AMG variant, past versions are characterized by rides that are firm, not supple, and IMO not acceptable for daily or long-distance driving. The new suspensions on the 53 (and 63) are more supple and again IMO just work better, especially on bad surfaces or long cruises.
The equipment you choose accentuates the differences.

All in all, the 53 feels more "urgent" in everything. Left pedal, right pedal, steering.

I’m getting much better mileage after break-in but some of that might be my foot & accelerator pedal. About the same as my 450 around town and 1-2 lower highway.

My 53's been a lot better after 3,500 miles, and I'm hoping for improvements with more miles. It started to loosen up @ 3,000 miles. Still a bigger difference than I expected. Below are my experiences, all V167 chassis.

350 mileage - steady highway cruise 85mph- 29mpg; mostly highway 70mph- 30mpg; around town - 23
450 mileage - steady highway cruise 85mph- 30mpg; mostly highway 70mph- 32mpg; around town - 24
53 mileage - steady highway cruise 85mph- 23mpg; mostly highway 70mph- 25mpg; around town - 21

I think two things affect the 53 - the fat tires' aero drag and rolling resistance, and the supercharger that's eager to join in the power frenzy. With displays set to watch boost pressure vs mpg closely, boost is IMMEDIATE, as is the drop in fuel economy. No lag, in blowing air OR sucking fuel.

As with @Ron.s the un-quantified variable is the right foot. Trying to be a good boy, but I need a newer radar detector!

edit: I'm going to add something.
The AMG53 is one of the few cars I have owned, that continues to beckon me to get in and take a drive. And I succumb to the temptation. I think I'll cover a hundred miles this afternoon if it doesn't hail. (It's that kind of car.)

Haven’t driven a 53, but rode in one. I get about 18MPg out of my GLE580. Have coworker who has a 53. IMO the exhaust note on the 580 while quiet, fits the car nicely and I find it a little more “polished”. I can’t seem to understand why you’d pay the same amount for a straight six that’s slower, this car really enjoys the TTV8 and gets up and goes. Torque on highway is outstanding but if you want something that’s programmed like a sports car this is not it. Comfort is lazy (my other car is a C63, so take that into consideration). In sport mode I find it perfect. Smooth, relatively quiet, but goes like a freight train. It really surprises people. That V8 rumble is there, but not in same way a 53 barks at you.

definitely more pizazz in the 53’s character but given the choice I’d make the same one again... every day.

just my .02.
