Driver-side reading light behind rearview mirror keeps turning on
2020 GLE350 with 900 miles - While heading home from dinner the other night, the driver-side reading/map light kept turning on. It would only turn off if I pressed the driver-side light switch.
I wasn't doing any "gestures" if that matters. Is there a setting I should check?

Same problem here

I have gone through your problem but on Passenger side. Reading light automatically kept turning on, when I turned it off by pressing switch, it would go off but again kept turning on automatically.
I took the car to the dealer then they were also shocked to see (As this model and option is very new and technicans have less to no knowledge regarding fixing). Then they permanently closed this option. Now the gesture does not work.

This problem very few people would know about. Because this gesture option is limited on GLE.

Did the MB Techs actually reprogram something using a tool or computer? Or was it using the GLE's MBUX system settings?

This happened to me once. The right rear inside light and the driver's side reading light came on randomly while driving. Stop / open door / close door / restart engine about 5 times and it went away and never came back.

MB Tech reprogrammed through diagnosis computer as it is never possible through MBUX.

Caused me much trouble to drive at night. So, I made the decision to turn it off permanently through dealer. 😔

Sounds like a camera or camera calibration issue to me. I’d make the dealer fix it, disabling it is not fixing it, you paid for that option. Did you try taking it to another dealer?

Moreover, as this problem occurred once in a blue moon, so I could not show it to the dealer. Rather made them understand about the fact.
The light caused much distraction at night, specially on freeways. So, all I did was turning off the function. Very saddening indeed.

Try this, go to “settings”, then “quick access”, then to activate/deactivate “interior motion sensor”. Hit Deactivate. Then turn off car, get out and lock it. Then unlock the car and restart. This may reset the system. If that does not work, try deactivating over night and then reactivate the next day. I don’t know if this will work, but it is worth a try. Instructions on the interior motion sensor are on page 96 of the US manual.
