2021 GLE350 Driver Assist Plus Package

Got the 2021 GLE350 without Driver Assist Plus package as this was the only one available and I could not wait. Question, Is it possible to enable the Drive Assist Package after purchase? Car had all the hardware needed. If BMW can do it, why MB cannot.

Even if all the cameras and sensors are included on a vehicle without the feature (doubtful), the Steering wheels are different. I don’t think any dealer would be doing this without replacing the steering wheel too and that would be thousands.

Thanks for confirming my doubts. Not sure if I will miss the feature. I will be how the adjustment will be coming from Tesla.

I have it on mine, in all honestly it was exciting just for the first month. Now it's rarely used since I'm the type of driver who likes to fully engage with the drive and gets paranoid if it brakes too late around the bend where I already saw cars braking and stopping 4-5 cars ahead. The only feature within the package that I still like is the stop-and-go traffic jam assist, and I don't mind that at all since it's moving at a slug speed anyway. Then maybe used again on a long road trip. You do get used to the car adjusting its speed when it approaches a car ahead, so if you switch cars back and forth, you may find yourself close to ramming the car in front of you with the cruise control on, expecting the car to slow down by itself.

Overall it depends on the type of driver you are I think. If you like to sit back and relax on any given time, the package is a must!

Most of the items in the package are collision avoidance anyway. If anything it could lower your insurance premium, not by much though.

The car without the Drivers Assist pkg doesn't have all the necessary hardware. You are missing the radar unit that sits behind the star in the grille, among other things.

The safety function that alerts you if you drift out of your lane probably saved my life very early one morning several years ago. Highly recommended, and for that I forgive my GLS for all other faults past, present, and future.

You can retrofit Distronic to it. Coders sell the kits but that is only one of the features of the drivers assistance package
