Manual Map Update on 2021 GLE450

Okay, I’ve read everything to do with how to do the manual map update. I have a new MacBook Air computer. Tried doing this in safari and chrome and neither worked.
Gone into Mercedes Me Connect, found the “ map update “ etc. Got to the blue box saying “manage maps” and hit this. List of regions came up and I checked off what I wanted. At the bottom of page there were 2 blue highlighted boxes. One was “download map install manager” and the other was “launch manager”.
So, here’s what happened to me.
I hit install map manager and it downloaded it to my computer and filed under downloads. I bought a Sandisk 32 GB memory stick type C and put it in the computer. I remember someone telling me to format the stick to EXFAT which I did. I then hit “launch manager” and nothing happened. The blue box went a lighter blue, then went back to dark blue. That’s it. I’ve gone through this multiple times. The 32 GB stick should handle the data as I’m not asking to download all the regions.
I called Mercedes Me Connect. They told me I had to sent them a screenshot of where I was having the problem so I did plus the other procedures I did and explained my problems. They said it would rake up to 5 working days for them to get info back from their tech dept.
In the meantime, I thought I would ask my forum friends here what I may be doing wrong? Launch the download manage won’t launch for me.
Only once a box came up saying the MacBook Air would not download because it could not verify it wasn’t malicious malware software?

Any suggestions while I wait? They gave me a reference number to refer to with them.

Were you ever able to successfully install the Map Manager? Clicking on the Open Map Manager button won’t do anything unless it was installed first.

You said you downloaded the Map Manager program to downloads. What happens if you double click on the install file?

Try starting over with the formatted memory stick in place before you start. I don't have a MAC any more, but that worked for my PC.
It seemed that the program needed to see an acceptable destination before starting. Before I formatted, removed and reinserted, all of the "Start" or "Download" buttons were disabled (greyed out).

FWIW I downloaded all the maps (and voice) and it used 20GB on my 32GB stick.
About 35 min to download and the same to load to the car. It starts automatically after a half a minute of wondering if you did the right thing.

Is it OK to start the loading into the car part but stop before it's completed? I don't want to sit and wait 35 minutes and was wondering if the process will stop and continue the next time I drive the car?

After you downloaded the manager, you have to install it. It won't do anything just sitting in your download folder.

It will pause the upgrade every time you park and then resume next time you start the car. I usually just stick the SD card in the car and then let it install next time I go for a drive. Depending on how much I drive it may take a few days for the installation to complete. Sometimes I let it continue in the garage with the ignition on. It only takes about 20 minutes for me.

Thanks for your input to my questions.

The good news is I discovered I had to go into privacy in my MacBook Air and manually allow the computer to download the Mercedes installer. I successfully did this and was able to check off the regions I wanted and the program downloaded the maps on my stick. It took about 10 minutes to do this and about 6 GBs. I didn't download everything as some states we will not be going to.

Anyway, went to the car, plugged in my memory stick into the USB port in the arm rest and the screen immediately recognized there was an update available. I hit download and it started showing me the percentages left to complete the process. Once it hit 100% it said download complete and asked to restart the system. Did this and then under setting and software updates it showed the update was activated. I took out the stick and that was it, I thought.

Went back in the house and got on my computer and logged into Mercedes Me Connect and got into my site for my car. I checked each region I had updated but each still showed the version 280 was installed not the 340 version. I couldn't understand why this would be. I called the customer service and got 2 different answers.
The last guy seemed to know more and he said you need to drive the car for a few miles before the update on my site would be upgraded from 280 to 340. Well, I did this and actually drove approx 70 miles with no change.

So, I don't know if these updates are actually loaded or not. I went onto my app on my iPhone and checked software updates and there was nothing there other than my home region which was automatically updates in June. Even checked under ''
"more".

Is there a few days lag before my app confirms the updates? Went back into the car under software updates and only bar showing there was the bar where you can click on or off for automatic updates.

I know this is a pain but once again looking for other owners who had similar experiences?

Toban,

I recently updated my maps and it was several days before the app showed they were updated. I had even checked the app and the website and for a while it showed the old version number, but it eventually corrected itself.

The customer service couldn't tell me that and that is something they should know. Thanks for the heads up on this and came from a member on this valuable forum for owners. Thanks again for helping.

Wonder if Mercedes ever put these customer service people in a vehicle to actually show them what happens or maybe they are just information gatherers.

You can also check the map versions from the car itself. Those should be accurate even if the app/online portal are delayed.

I don't quite remember the steps, but I think it's somewhere within the Navigation screen (NOT the car settings screen). Click on the navigation settings (Gear) icon then fiddle around - probably somewhere in the Advanced section. Going purely by memory here so the terminology and steps are probably way off

They have helped me on simple things. From what I can gather, they are just information gathers on more complex issues. I email them, they contact the engineers in Germany, then the engineers email customer support, then they email me.

Glad you got it downloaded. I think my updates on the app eventually showed up in a few days. The phone app gives a different V number. My phone Mercedes ME shows I am up to date Map Update North America installed (V12.0) Canada and Alaska and (V11.1) also . The computer app Mercedes Me shows the detail of all the choices of maps and what versions mine all show version 340 for the map data and the voice recognition version 340 also. I updated all maps.
The Canadian customer service which I believe you utilize is pathetic. Most don't even know what the vehicle is capable of. Phone, email and website inquiry its all bad and mostly ignored. They never did give me a solution and never followed up.

Such BS service especially since I was told to take it into the dealer to fix the download problem and I HAVE TO DRIVE 2 HOURS for that non service and waste of time.
I was told the same that Germany had to get involved and never heard back. Too bad Mercedes doesn't look at the forums to improve, they could learn a lot.

Manual updates not showing up on Mercedes Me iPhone App

I have loaded all the regions in 2 updates from my computer to a memory stick, then downloaded into the car. First update of selective regions was done 6 days ago. The last regions were updates today.

These updates from the first update have not shown up on my iPhone Mercedes Benz Connect iPhone App. Still shows version 280 with update map and is suppose to load version 340 available.

Tried loading again and a window comes up saying a newer version has been updated on your system so it won't over write the regions again.

The manual update in both instances verified the software update was completed and I restarted the system and was verified under software updates it was activated.

But still no update on my Mercedes Me iPhone App.

I went into the navigation mode and searched for a development next to us in AZ. It was not there before update and still not there after the update.

I went to wego.here maps who supplies the mapping to Mercedes Benz and the development was there.

I guess I'm to assume the update was not done when it verified it was? Who knows. A poster mentioned his App was not updated for several days after he did the update but shouldn't it be done after 6 days? Do you have to drive the car lots in order for the update be transferred to the iPhone? Just looking for verification the update was actually done via the App?

Any suggestions or comments on my post? Called customer service 6 days ago and they didn't seem to have a clue at all, gave me a case reference number and have never heard back from them.

where in the app do you see the map version? I couldn’t find it on my iPhone app.

On my iPhone, you go into your car on the app, then click on “more” and you get all the options available with one near the bottom of the options is “software updates”. Hit this and a list of updates is displayed. For me it shows my region which is an automatic update showing Version V15.0 North America but does not show the other regions in the USA which I have updated. It should show up on this list as regions updated but it does not. That’s my concern and question.

You can also go into the Mercedes me connect website for your car on your computer and click on “manage maps”. A list of regions are listed. Click on one of these regions and it will show you what version is installed and what version is available for update.

I have an Android phone with the Mercedes ME app. My Android phone does not show the same version as what I downloaded - Version 340 to the vehicle. The phone Mercedes Me app. shows 2019 versions 11.1 and 12 and when I go to the info. screen it shows the date of the update as the same date I picked up the car 14 months ago. The phone Mercedes Me app. also says I am up to date. The Vehicle and the Mercedes Me app on my computer shows the downloaded versions 340 and is most current. I don't see how you update the maps in Mercedes Me phone app. I don't have an address to check for a recently added location but I guess the Vehicle and Mercedes Me app on my computer would be current and if I searched using Mercedes Me app. on my phone it would not be current.

I doubt MB Canada customer service will ever call you back.

I'm in the US and my Mercedes app on my iPhone does not show the map versions. Or I'm blind.

No 'software updates' option in my app on my iPhone. No Map updates icon either. Must be a Canadian thing?

The latest version V15.1 North America Canada and Alaska updated June 9and it shows on my IPhone but nothing else. This is all Canadian owners home region.

That’s all it shows as updated on Mercedes Me IPhone even though I’ve updated all the regions in the USA and was confirmed after it was completed in the car. Also was indicated under “settings” on right screen and down to software updates it showed map updates as “activated “ after I restarted the MBUX system.
Isn’t it bad bad that a call from customer service is not going to happen? They gave me a reference # but I’m long past that issue now. Think I’ll tell my general manager at the dealership and see who I can call in management with Mercedes Me call Center.

From what I've seen with our GLE (2 years old at this point - we ordered one a month after the new body style was available in Canada), it only ever shows the automatic update region in the Mercedes Me app. In order to figure out what versions of the maps you have for the other regions, you have to either log in to the Mercedes Me web page, or look at them on your vehicle. The only way to update all of those other regions is to manually update them using a memory stick, and once you do that, it will show that they are updated on the Mercedes Me web page and in the vehicle, but it will never show them in the app on your phone.

Mine doesn’t show a list in the car of regions being updated from version 280 to version 340. Someone said you could go to navigation and hit the gear at bottom of screen which is setting and it shows there? Haven’t tried that.
Anyway, what a stupid system setup by Mercedes. Sure is frustrating.
Where do I see a confirmation from Version 280 to version 340 on the USA maps?

The following gets me to the list of map regions and their versions:



In there, I see the main map that we've chosen as our primary auto-update area (Canada and Alaska), and then under that is a line, and a section titled "Details" and you can scroll through all of the other regions. They have the region update number in them. Most of them are outdated on our GLE as we updated them once when we were planning on doing a driving trip that never happened, and I haven't bothered to update them since. Thought I'd have big ambitions of keeping them all updated regularly, but I've now found that I really don't care and won't bother unless we're going to plan another driving trip. Which won't be happening any time soon since the pandemic is still very much hampering things.
