The 450 AMG Exterior package has active exhaust ports in the bumper; they are not fake.
Does the muffler or tailpipe connect to them? If that's a no - they are fake - part of the bumper/ plastic. Most makes today "fake it," but if the design can be improved by the aftermarket (without ruining the sensors etc.) - terrific.

That's a pretty narrow definition. The pipes are not physically connected to the bumper cover bot they exit through the opening. You do not typically see this level of detail when looking at it. Brabus great but you're looking at $5k minimum.

Brabus... right on. I will look into that.
Even the AMG diffuser is not connected. Mine have a slight gap between pipe and the tips. As I understand it, connecting them creates a fixed point that over time increases harmonic vibration damage to the exhaust system. The pipes float on hangers until they reach the Diffuser. The engine rests on motor mounts letting the exhaust move with engine torque. Fixing the pipe at the Diffuser creates a stress point. As Greg said, they are still active with the exhaust exiting the Diffuser outlet so unless you crawl underneath they look the same.
Our 2018 Audi SQ 5 actually has fakes with the pipe turned down behind the Diffuser. At mid cycle they changed to active.
I don't like the one on the GLS580 and was inspired to change to the AMG one. GLS is a lot more work than the GLE however. Be sure the options you want /need as this affects the choice of diffuser trim colour and hitch cutout.

Another member compared the “body color painted diffuser look” on the Maybach. So if you make a change and like that look it would be easy to have it painted before installing. I might do that to mine…it emphasizes the quad exhaust and gives it a custom look.
Edit-to clarify it’s the upper matte black piece not the exhaust portion.
