Wireless charging plus NFC
The wireless charging pad includes NFC that is built into it also. It is used for when you want to sync your new phone with your car. All you need to do is to turn on Bluetooth on your phone and place it on the wireless charging pad. It will sync it to your car instantly. Without having you to go thru all the settings and discover it and pair it with the phone and car.
Sadly I only used this feature once and I changed my iPhone so now my phone doesn’t fit with my phone case.

Chip could be possible?
I took possession of my 2022 GLE 350 on November 30, 2021 and was told that when the chips come in that I could have it put in my car, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It doesn’t make sense how the other makes Honda, Toyota, Kia etc.. have the chips for wireless charging, but Mercedes doesn’t.

I have this in my GLE 53 and as most people have said, it is useless. Doesn't work as it constantly stops and starts. I also have this in my Dodge Ram Truck and it works great because it fits tight to the charging plate. Very poor implementation by Mercedes...

Well considering….
This is my first Benz with wireless charging, I think it’s wonderful. I have an iPhone 8 Plus and it fits perfectly. My commute to work is 30 minutes and I’ll pop it in with sometimes around 50% charge and 30 minutes later until I arrive at work, it’s at 80%.. perfect for me. I’m assuming most of us charge at phones at night for the next day, I find the unit in the GLE a nice stop gap.

It might be different based on dealership, but I asked my SA today and he said it was possible to add it on later, but would be my cost and would be "thousands of dollars". I have not yet received my car yet, but intend to ask someone in the service department as well.

Yes. it is possible to add later, and we have to pay for the labor and parts. MB refunded / credited the cost hence they will not retrofit this.
Installing this would require removing the center console and hence the higher cost. It may be worth if this works with Iphone 13 and newer Android devices.
