The other day I took my sunglasses to the car and attempted to put them in the sunglass compartment only to find out there is no sunglass compartment. I could have sworn I read all kinds of threads that if you got MBUX assistant or the 3D surround sound you would lose the sunglass compartment. Great so of course when I put the order in I didn't get either of those options thinking I would get the sunglass compartment which I was really excited about since my C class doesn't have that. Then I get this. WTH is this. Why is this blank? I'm so confused, can't blame this on a chip shortage. Absolute oversight.
I was at the dealer the other day and saw a 2022 GLE450 in the showroom and it also did not have a sunglass holder. Then I checked a 2021 GLS that was also on the floor. It had a sunglass holder. So for some reason they decided not to put a sunglass compartment on the 2022s. Makes no sense. At that point I would have ordered the MBUX assistant had I know this.
With that said maybe some of the members can help me out here. For those of you that have a 2021 GLE without the MBUX or 3D surround can you find the part number for that piece where the sunglass holder is housed? I've searched every where online, can't seem to find anything. Thanks.
I too was surprised that my 2022 was missing the sunglass holder, I did’ t get the MBUX assistant because I wanted a sunglass holder… now I don’t have either, very frustrating!
My 2021 has sunglass holders as did my ML350 but my E350 didn't and it was really lousy. There was a little holder under the front seat where you could put things and I would try to put sunglasses there but it never failed, you drop them on the floor and step on them. I spent a fortune on Mawi Jim and Serengetti sun glasses over the years. Boy, am I glad I got a 2021 last November. No problems with chips, sun glass holder etc, just lousy Cooper tires.
I guess you could store it in the rear passenger armrest storage compartment, but make sure it is cushioned so when you turn it doesn't move around. If not I guess you could bring the sunglasses' case with you and then store it there.
Well, I don't drive my wife's E very often so it isn't a big issue. The E is a 2013 and even the backup camara isn't all that good. There are no tire lines to guide you into the spot like my m and my gle currently have buy you get used to it. What drives me nuts is every day I find out something new about these vehicles and there is no information about a lot of the "extras" in any manual. However, the basic stuff like FOB remote start, sunglass holder and a better intermittent windshield wiper system, similar to almost every other vehicle manufacturer has would be great.
I mean this is the most minor of problems. I just don't understand the reasoning behind this decision. Why have it on the 2021s but not the 2022s? Can't blame this on a chip shortage. This is just a piece of plastic. I'm just mad because I specifically omitted the MBUX interior assistant so that I could have the sunglass holder. Oh well, amazon it is. For those of you getting 2022s just know you won't get a sunglass holder so if you were looking to get the MBUX interior assistant or even the 3D surround sound system go for it.
I have the compartment but carry more than one pair and my wife needs a clip. In summer I have a set for golf that also work well on the road. Polarized SG's reduce your depth of field and block the HUD. Golf glasses are non Polarized and block Blue Light as well as UVB/UVA. I find them better overall except fishing. My second set has yellow lens that block glare and enhance vision in overcast sky or snow conditions. Over the years I've found that visor holders either hang down and block your view or are cumbersome when you need to drop the visor or move it to the side. The attractive plastic clips work but the sun weakens the plastic afer a few months. I finally found clips that last but they are very tight on the visor so I bend the metal clip open. With these you can roll the glasees foreward so that they fit tight to the visor rather than hanging down...if that bothers you. Lots of options!
Looks like MB has decided to eliminate this altogether for the GLE. Not sure but maybe GLEs without pano roof have it. It's really annoying since I do not like any of the aftermarket sunglass holder.... looks and feels clunky. Sure it's a first-world problem.... but these minor things add up.
I have both a 21 GLE 350 and a 23 GLE 350. The 21 has eyeglass holder but not the 23. Figure that one out. I noticed some changes like on the 21, you can have both mph and kph on the dash but there is no speed limit notification on the gps like on the 23. What really drives me nuts is that there is no extensive manual for using the sound system. Even the dealer tells me it is intuitive and easy to figure out. That is great until something doesn't work right. I kept losing my presets when swiping on that little black table. Driving me crazy
How difficult is the glasses holder to install? I had an interesting experience with my local MB service department. I took vehicle in for the 60k service and they called me to tell me that there was a problem with my rear shock, hood latch and crack in front seat. They fixed all these issues under warrantee. Anyone else have these issues.
