Recently I have noticed that the oil level went to middle of the min-max range; on entering the workshop menu, display indicated that 0.4l of oil are needed to reach max. I am also observing increased noise engine / rattle especially when idling on drive (at stoppages).
Anyone knows if these two observations could be linked?
Is it normal to have such oil losses? Would 400ml less than max affect engine smoothness? Mine is the GLE 300D (2020)

Being down less than 1/2 liter on oil would not be related to any noises, IMO.
Diesel is a very different animal. Many diesel engines get the oil contaminated with fuel. I prefer to change the oil more frequently than the MB spec to keep the oil clean from contamination. Try a fresh oil change and see if that reduces engine noise. a half litre below max should not be a problem.
