The first two times were on long trips to Colorado after having stopped for gas. The third time happened last week not 10 minutes from home.

Acting on a hunch, I went to the Mercedes Me website and found that new maps are available for my area. Supposedly my home location receives updates over the air but other regions must be updated manually. A flash drive formatted properly and the Mercedes download manager program installed made this a fairly easy process. I now have updated maps for any state I am likely to visit in the coming months. Hopefully that will take care of the problem.
Just read your note and was on my way out the door. Got in the car and Navi was there. Not sure I have a flash drive big enough to do the download right at hand, but going to the dealer tmrw for service as luck would have it. It’s going to be his task. Thanks for the info

Using a 2 GB flash drive, I was able to fit one region at a time.

You could also use a memory card as well but I can't remember which model year GLEs don't have the sd card slot, I would assume the ones that have the navigation option package would have that sd card slot, so your GLE should have. Well, instead of guessing I guess you could take a look and find out : ) ?
By the way, backup data on that storage medium depending on what you ended up using (usb drive or sd card), since installing maps on it will wipe it clean.

I see, in that case you can get a card reader and use a memory card. That being said, if you don't have a spare memory card either then don't get a usb card reader, just get a new usb drive to make things less complicated.

I have appt tomorrow and am planning to make this their issue. I'll have to grab a flash drive this weekend for future use.

I see, yup they should be able to install the latest one for you. On the other hand, if your map update subscription is not ending soon, getting a usb drive is not a bad idea at all as there might likely be multiple new updates throughout the year. That being said, there probably won't be significant changes.

I see, keep us posted on the dealership appointment and your overall experience with the new update they would to install on your vehicle. Ask them what the previous MBUX update might had been, especially since you haven't figure out why there is no changelog showing in both the vehicle or Mercedes Me.

Brought car in at 9 am. At noon, they called to tell me that we’re doing transmission software update and nav, mbux and entertainment updates allegedly. Said they need to keep car until tmrw morning.

So here is something that is either ingenious or an outrageous bunch of bs. Asked them to check alignment as car seemed to have a very slight drift to the right. I have not hit a single pothole or curb, etc. Have 3500 miles on car. SA said this drift was normal as MB sets this as spec for safety reasons. He said if someone falls asleep at the wheel, MB wants car to drift off road rather than into oncoming traffic. Again, ingenious or a huge load of bs. I can’t decide.

I second that, I driven multiple E (although all pfl) and it doesn't experience that, take it to a different dealership once the updates are done.

These vehicles have lane keeping assist, so BS on the drift comment. My car tracks straight. However, if the road is crowned it may slowly drift right depending on the crown. Tell them to check the alignment -- very likely it was delivered out of alignment, especially if the dealer didn't checked it as part of the new car delivery.
