New GLE 2022 Check Engine Light Problem

Hi everyone
I need some suggestions from anyone who faced similar issue previously.
We have leased 2022 GLE350 on 1/30/2022 and my wife drove the car from dealer to home. And when we arrived the home, my wife asked me there is a light on since I left the dealer and what does it mean.
I checked the light and it is a check engine light which I couldn't believe they sold us a car with engine light on.
So I contacted the dealer immediately and they said most likely it is loose fuel gas cap or some minor issue and bring the car back next day as it was Sunday.
So we went to service next morning and service said issue has been minor and fixed same day and we picked up, engine light was off.
Next day engine light came on again and we returned back to service. they kept the car for 8 days and then told us they found a leak somewhere which Fuel tank needs to be replaced which is in backorder
and they don't have ETA for part but potentially could take several months. They also mentioned that this is not a safety issue, we can continue to drive car.
Although they mention it is not a safety issue, I asked them how could we know when there is a safety issue which we will not now because we will assume engine light is on because of known issue.
They don't have any response to that and now we have the car, engine light is on and we don't feel car is safe to drive.
I contacted with MB customer service and asked either expedite the part somehow and fix the car asap or replace the car but It has been 10 days with no answer.
What is your opinion what should be my next step? Should I lemon the car, if yes what is the best way for it? Should I contact with a attorney?
If it matters, I am California/US based.
Thank You in advanced for any help, tip

Start the documentation process according to your state’s lemon law and inform the dealer you have done so. Hope you get a satisfactory resolution. The V167 is a strong avoid/do not buy, sadly, for any readers considering this vehicle. A very long list of reasons for this.

2023 GLE450, 2021 E350 / Used to drive: 2019 E300, 2021 + 2020 GLE350, 2019 E450 Wagon(s), 2017 E300
So - Tetiker, one thought... I took delivery of my 2017 E300 with the check engine light on - long story, was end of sales month and they swore they would fix it if I just took delivery. (I would not do this again...) They picked up the car the next day and brought me a loaner - after about a week of driving someone's car other than mine, I put up a pretty big fuss, and they finally took the part off a car in inventory. Not sure this is an option now, since there is no inventory, but see if maybe there is another option for getting the part. Best of luck in any case.

This place is a joke.
Unfortunately you're not the first to have this problem with the one-sixty-lemon platform and sadly won't be the last. The 167 has been plagued with problems since it's release in 2019. The good news is the dealers have a lot of experience fixing them by now. Either wait for them to fix it if you like the car, or start researching the lemon laws in your state if you no longer have confidence in the reliability of your GLE and don't want to keep it. Luckily many owners have reported these problems were fixed and did not return after the dealer visit(s) for the same issues. New cars..and the parts for them are on backorder all over the world. If the dealer said it's safe to drive then you'll be fine. Many check engine lights are for emissions monitoring and don't affect the function of the car.

Greasemonkey and chassis have access to secret data showing the v167 is a bad car. They’re actually geniuses who know more than anyone else about the v167, and they are absolutely correct in their statements. Their personal experience with the car is only one data point in their vast trove of factual data they possess secretly. We should close this forum since the car is so bad and no one should even buy one.

Check Engine lights are typically for problems related to the emissions system. Safety issues will trigger other types of warnings. Driving with the Check Engine light sounds irritating but not dangerous. I wouldn’t worry.

Tetiker, you will find there are few people on this forum you will need to block in order to get accurate or helpful information. Hope your issue gets sorted out soon, but I'd not let up on the $tealership for immediate action.
As a side note, our 2022 GLE 450 has been flawless as we approach 10,000 miles. So make them fix yours and enjoy!

2022 GLE 450 (Black on Black)
Try reaching out to MB Customer service and see what they suggest. Right now, I am waiting for an overhead control unit that the tech thinks it is making a small noise. So far it has been two weeks. It is coming from Deutschland….
Every model has its issues….My GLE had the Oil pressure light the first day I took delivery of the GLE. It had to go back twice to have it fixed with the help of MB's Engineering Department.

Had the ECL light come on before my A service, but went away when I turned the vehicle off and started it again. Today it came on again. Will see what the service folks say tomorrow....

And of course this morning first thing the ECL light was on, but now is off right before I head to the dealership. Reminds me of an old TV we had years ago, was having problems with the remote. Put it in the car and drove it to the repair shop and no troubles. Got it home started up again. Did that 3 times and then the repair guy said 'just take it for a ride'... Next time the remote was having issues we put it in the car, drove around the block, and it never had the problem again.... :-)

I have had my 2020 GLE 350 for 3 weeks (30k miles) and the CEL just came on this past Friday. We only used it a couple of times in 3 days due to the light and I got an appointment today. (Tuesday) This morning when I started it to go to the dealer it was off. But, I went anyway. Before they tested it, They said it was most likely that the gas cap was loose and that it could take about 4 or 5 trips (on and off) for it to reset.
So, I asked them to keep it anyway and check the codes (the wipers skipped anyway, so I requested new ones) In the end, I just picked it up and it was the gas cap and they just said to make sure I securely tighten it. Unfortunately common, but once you get used to the car, not a big deal. I love this car, my first Benz.

Thanks for the post. I'll find out soon enough, although I have checked the gas cap several times; maybe defective.

So, my appointment WAS for tomorrow, and service dept sent me a text, 3 days ago, stating that they are not going to service my vehicle. They cancelled my appointment that I have been waiting 3 weeks for. I have reached out a few times and have yet to receive a response. I called MBUSA Customer Care, and they said they would reach out to dealership. Still no response. How arrogant can this dealer
ship be? Perhaps there is no German translation for "Customer Service".
