Sweet GLE450 engine

So took the vehicle up to the mountains today for a skiing trip with 7 passengers, Thule carrier with all the gears and I am so happy that I opted for the i6 engine as it just hummed upwards without fuzz and that is on ECO setting. I don't even have to change the setting to sport or use the paddle shifter to change gears like on my ML350 with 5 people plus gears on the roof. Before we need to use 2 vehicles for our trip now only 1 and everyone is happy and comfortable. I can't imagine how the 4 cylinder engine will do with the same load. Coasting downhill the engine is completely shut-off and will only come on when I apply the brakes. I also tried the nannies of the car and they are very good, too good actually. Used the remote auto start of the vehicle to warm the car while we are heading down from the slopes and the snow is all melted and I don't need to brush-off the snow anymore. The lane keeping assist on twisty mountain roads really did it's job. With the ECO setting I managed to get 9.8-10.1l/100 km on mountain and highway driving 70-110kph speed (90 km total travel). In comparison same route to the mountains doing 70-110kph using my Mini R56 with 4 people + thule box on the roof I get 8.6-9.0l/100km. On my C300 5 people + thule box on the roof, 13.5-14.0l/100km. On the ML350 5 people + thule box on the roof, 12.5-13.5l/100km. I think the mild hybrid really helped on the fuel consumption for the 450 and I can't wait to stretch it's legs after the break-in period. Hopefully it gets much better after the break-in period. So anyone thinking of getting a 350 and will be loading the vehicle and going up and down the mountains better reconsider and get the 450 instead.

2015 ML 350 4matic
good hear
I have a 450 on order to replace my 2015 350 ML.
The 2015 has a 300 hp V6 and is no slouch on the road.
It also has 130,000 flawless miles on it.

You'll be pleased with the I6, compared to the old V6. IMO the 3.5L V6 was inadequate to move the 166 cars - the diesel (even lower HP) moved the car better.
Even the little 2.0L 4 cyl moves the car more easily than the V6, at all speeds - around town, passing at 90mph, or holding gears on high mountain passes.

In my experience (had a 4 cyl loaner for a month, about 1,500 miles in the High Country) the I6 got a bit better mileage than the four, which was about the same as our 2.0 GLC and our Diesels. A Very impressive six. (The GLE53 is about 7mpg lower than all of the above.)

And you'll be impressed with the new chassis. It's a remarkable improvement, after the decline of the W166 from a better W164. 100,000+ miles on each for me.

Yeah the NA V6 on the X166 was good. I have no complains about it around town and straight highway. It only runs out of steam on high elevation highway speeds +140kph then the tranny will hunt gears when going uphill as well so I always go manual mode on mountain roads. The chassis is also great on the V167. Somehow I dont regret not having the airmatic like my ML350 as the springs are good enough. I rarely put the ML350 in sport mode anyway as when I do that the suspension becomes too hard, harder than my C300 with sports suspension.
