Lighting packages chip shortage

Hey everyone,
my dealer called me earlier today and informed me that the intelligent lighting package on my 450 is no longer available. Something with parts so they pulled the options. This is so sad. I was really looking forward to this!! Has anyone else heard on their build?

I think BMW and the VW Group have reported the same.

Saw this on social media. Affects all E-classes as well.

I was about to order a 350 de when the salesman mentioned that the Multibeam headlights were being replaced by standard LED lights.

I promptly cancelled the order as one of the options I really wanted was the multibeam lights.

I’m hoping MY23 will have these back on order.

My 450 Order and build sheet that I received in the last 10 days still includes the intelligent light pkg (DA4). I was issued a VIN number with this most recent communication. I have not been informed as yet of this possible yet another deletion of content. Will have to do some additional checking ? (Who knows?)
This is getting to be a tiring experience to order new autos these days! My order was placed with dealer in September last year.

Toyota recently announced production slowdowns because of chip and other component shortages. Supply chain challenges, including semiconductors or “chips”, will affect the industry into 2024.

I got a dreaded voice mail from my salesman yesterday about the GLE 450 I put on order 3 months ago. He said that they had just heard from the factory about certain features I ordered not being available and he wanted to talk to me about that. Not looking forward to the conversation today.

I have the standard LED and it is good. I actually like it better than the multibeam as I have full manual control of the high-beams on-the-fly. I think on the multi-beam you need to go through a menu to turn if off. I also noticed that the standard high-beams are more blunt because of the reflectors in which if you want to flash someone it is more effective. I don't miss the swiveling lights as the LEDs casts a wide light. I drive the vehicle in a winding mountain pass ones a week and performance is very good compared to the old intelligent xenons on my ML350 before. I'm not sure how much it adds light output when it is not on high setting as I see them on all the time on other GLEs.

On the Fancy LED package, just turn the light switch (in front on your left knee) one click to the right (called "manual"), and they are Manual High Beam. No menu.
And no matter which setting you have, the high beam lever flashes the highs, or stays on low all the time, just like the base version.
The only real difference is the beams go "Automatic" when you put them on automatic.

I won't have a car without the fancy lighting package. It's funny what's important to people.

Does your standard LED have cornering lights?

Matrix LED lights do not swivel on a current GLE. They just turn individual LEDs on or off as needed.

None. All north american GLEs dont have it like the previous generation. There reflector for the cornering lights got replaced by a black plastic diffuser.

One other thing. On my ML before I can only count a few instances when the auto high beams turned on itself and that is on a pitched black mountain road. With all the incoming cars and road lights wr have I am not sure if you will really see it work. I also know MB crippled the multi-beams for north america just like before so another reason why not to dismiss the standard leds. There are however third party hacks to unlock it's potential but again not sure if obe will trully notice such difference while driving.

Well, finally managed to connect with my sales associate. Both the wireless charging and upgraded exterior lighting package (honestly, for North American buyers the difference isn't much, just no automatic turning on the high beams and no corner lighting) are missing. The vehicle is currently in production. I guess I can live without them but the salesman also said the air suspension might also be missing. I told him that was likely a deal breaker for me. It is so annoying that with a vehicle this price they are forcing buyers into decontenting it. Might just hold onto my three-year-old Lincoln (which has the upgraded head lamps and wireless charging) another year and try again in 2023.

There is more to the intelligent lighting system than just automatic high beam. They illuminate the road better, even without full functionality.

Don't go looking for Lincoln's now, because they have the same shortage. I think they are shipping again now, though.

This. I had mine activated by RJ Automotive (Raj) and they work really well. The auto high works well, it's surprising how they're on high but with segments dimmed due to oncoming traffic etc.

This all must be frustrating as heck for dealers as well. They typically can't find out what is going to be deleted until the vehicle is being built. My salesman said that the most recent factory ordered vehicle that arrived came with crappy cheap wheels and tires that didn't even fit right, the factory saying that was all they had when the car was built. They shipped up the right wheels/tires soon after. I get that there are shortages of key parts and delays are inevitable (or should be inevitable until the right parts are available), but the way MB is handling it they are busy creating a whole batch of disgruntled customers.

I asked my salesman to call me when vehicles are no longer arriving with ordered features missing, and I would then place a new order.

EDIT: The final tally of features deleted: wireless charger, Airmatic suspension system, advanced lighting package, augmented reality system.

It's not going to get better any time soon. Talking to someone on the weekend who has worked at VW for over 30 years he was saying if you have an accident in a VW car and it needs a new wiring loom, forget it. Most of them come from Ukraine.....

Just to note, auto high beams are atually standard for 2022. It's only the actual lights that are being upgraded.
