Dealer Upcharges
I'm really enjoying my 2021 GLE 450, but getting the itch for a GLE 63. If I order from my dealer, they are adding a $20k premium on the order. Forget the G wagon markups which are insane. Is this normal with all dealerships even if you are an existing customer?

Reason being V8 stopped production for the NA market for a while and only recently been back up in limited supplies on top of general mark ups on most MBs, the mark up is therefore even higher. However, keep shopping since you might find a good deal. Not all dealerships only care about the short term gain and actually care about their customers, hopefully. Take your money and give it to those who does.

Hi, Yes exactly. My dealer basically said that hey are only getting a certain amount of V8's now that they can order mine but I'll be charged the $20K premium. Still bugs me and I wonder at one point if it's a dumb move when I'm pretty happy with my 450. Still, the idea of increased handling and performance while still being able to have the GLE practicality is enticing. I also have a Rivian SUV pre order (at the lower original price) which I am unconvinced will be the right car for me.

Not all Dealers are adding Markups. I had a GLE 63 on order at MSRP that I cancelled for a Porsche Cayenne GTS also priced at MSRP. Mercedes still hadn’t announced pricing on the 63 as of yesterday. Allocations are still limited, but that seems to be the situation with a lot of cars. IMO, the Ice V8’s are not going to be around very long in the US since Biden Admin just upped the emissions requirements again. It’s going to take a lot of EV’s to offset the V8’s. Maybe hybrid V8’s will help keep ‘em coming…where’s the E Performance Mercedes?

As the number of V8s are decreasing due to tightening regulations and other things, it might be a good idea to get a V8 soon. It is just that if you think the extra is actually worth it for you. The 450 is a very capable vehicle and given that you have a new SUV coming as well you need to decide if it really is worth it. If you are going to be driving the new SUV more often, it might be a waste to have a V8 sitting in your garage doing nothing.

Hi, Sorry if I was confusing, I have my pre-order for the Rivian in but I am more and more convinced that I am not ready for an EV living in Manhattan and that it won't really represent a cost and convenience benefit. I'd probably flip that one or maybe get deposit back and stick with a gas powered beast for now.

As others have said, you should be able to find a dealer that will do MSRP if you are patient and expand your search area. Unless you've got money to burn, $20k that you'll never get back is a big hit that may dilute the pleasure of the vehicle.

I just got my GLE450, after the customer who ordered backed out. Originally the dealer marked it up $10k but negotiated down to $2k.
Other recent experiences with market adjustments:
Other recent experiences with market adjustments:
- Tried to buy a Land Rover Defender 90 back in December but couldn't find a dealer without a $10-20k markup (even though I currently own one)
- Looked at a Genesis GV70 in January - originally had a $5k market adjustment, but the dealer actually agreed to sell at MSRP
- BMW Manhattan is currently selling X5s at MSRP - no negotiation required

The idea of paying and extra $20 without question Pre-Diluted the excitement. I'm not even sure if ZI could convince myself to do it since I am pretty happy with my 450. I'm definitely going to shop around, but I do believe I could be happy for a while with a 63 too.

So I just placed my order for a GLE 63, but I'm really conflicted on the $10k premium charge, they started at $15K. I love my GLE 450 so far and the 63 would be awesome, but I think I got too much into the excitement and put deposit down. No pricing whatsoever for car or options and 7-8 month wait. Let's see.

I'm okay with 12K. Of course less would have been better. Since I really wanted a GLE 63S and thought I'd have to get a used 2021. I was thrilled to find out it would be available for 2022 and could spec my own.
