Just had our GLEs coded by RJA

Just had these done by RJA. Process was flawless.
Took about 20 min start to finish, including my wife’s GLE. Process was straightforward and they conveyed everything they were doing via What’sUp.

These are what I chose on my GLE53 Coupe:

23. Intelligent High Beam Plus Activation - 5 Credits
• Enable the intelligent high beam plus/multibeam lights.

8. Sport +/Individual as default Mode when starting vehicle - 1 Credit

10. Race Mode Enable (AMG 35/43/53 Vehicles Only) - 2 Credits
Enable Race mode which provides better handling and a slightly better throttle response

13. Seatbelt Warning Disable - 1 Credit

15. Energizing Comfort Enable in MBUX - 1 Credit
• Enable active comfort menu which has a selection of videos and ambiences to improve your mood while driving.

While at it, I had the S/S remember last setting” coding done on my wife’s GLE350:

-3. Start-Stop remember last setting - 1 Credit
• Useful for people who do not like start stop, we can enable the car to remember the last setting, so if you turn off start stop it stays off even after switching the engine on and off.

Can’t wait to test the intelligent high beams plus. That was the main reason I wanted the coding done. The rest are a bonus.

Here’s what Race Mode looks like:

I love the intelligent lights in my GLS. Worth the investment.

I just noticed your headlight indicators are in the lower left. In both my GLE and GLS, they are in the lower right. Must be a AMG thing?

I opted for the multibeam light option from the factory on my wife's GLE450. I thought they were totally different headlights from the standard? You mean to tell me I could have just bought the programming from RJA for a fraction of the price?

Very surprised the 450 doesn't come with S+ mode which I love. I am thinking of getting that from RJA.

The multibeam is indeed different hardware, but the full capabilities are limited by the US regulators. RJ can enable the Euro-spec functions which allows individual LEDs to be lit, and shape to dim only areas with oncoming traffic or cars you are tailing. It's very cool to see it shape around the car you are following, and not put any light on the rearview mirror of the driver, yet still light up street signs on both sides of the car.

Thank you for the clarification and making me feel better. Might have to upgrade that as well. Very cool.

I've only found one issue with starting the vehicle in the "Individual" setting (on which I had the exhaust flap open). When starting with the flap open, there's a drone inside the cabin that will not go away until the engine is shut down and restarted again, as opposed to opening the flaps manually. It does not matter if the flap is closed or I change it to Comfort or any other modes. It's a pronounced drone.
Very strange phenomenon. So for now I've disabled the open exhaust flaps on that profile until I can do some more testing.

Awesome car!!. & thanks for sharing! I've heard of them, but was always skeptical about how safe/real this was. How was your experience overall? How long did it take to receive the OBD device. I ordered my GLE53 AMG COUPE back in December 2021... delivery is scheduled for end of June. I can't wait

I am on the fence of enabling the intelligent lighting on my GLE 350 (I have the lighting package with the multibeam headlights). I notice right now it blinds anyone WALKING by because apparently the system does not detect people for the automatic headlights. Do you know if the intelligent lights will change that or if you notice the intelligent lights actually not blind people when it detects them? Also how long from start to finish did this process take (payment, getting the OBD device, etc)?

Good questions, and thanks for posting them.

Another question: I understand that when the intelligent lights see road signs, they are dimmed somewhat so the reflection isn't such a glare. Is that portion of the euro feature enabled as well?
That is, if my understanding is true.

I have got a 2022 GLE 350DE that has the intelligent light. It dims light out based on the car in front and on coming traffic. But takes a bit of time to adjust to oncoming traffic if there is even a slight curve or steepness. Drove in France and Spain and had oncoming traffic flashing head lights to warn me to turn down beam light but a fraction latter the car did it itself.

So, in that respect, it's no different than standard Automatic High Beams. I find myself manually intervening in those situations.

1. Order the ODB from their store. It comes with five credits, which is how much you will need for the intelligent light programming. If you want other things done, you will need to see how many credits ea. requires, and go from there. ODB comes from the UK takes about ten days to get to the U.S.
2. Once you receive the ODB, you book a session with RJA. Choose day & time slot and then you are ready to go. They text you via WhatsUp (if you don't use this, let them know your preferred method of contact). You will need to download "Anydesk" software on your Windows10 machine so they can remote in.
3. The day of the session, they will contact you a few minutes before. You plug in the ODB into your vehicle, and the USB cable in your computer. Text them your session ID in Anydesk, and they will remote in and do their thing. Whole process takes about 10-15 min. I had two vehicles done in about 20 min.

That's it. Very straightforward process. They offer a 2-year warranty in case dealer re-flashes your car (rare). After two years, they will re-do it for £30.

Cheers,

I had our 350 done last year; we had the intelligent lights, Distronic, speed signs, and a couple of other minor things done. Very smooth although the speed sign part didn’t end up working for reasons Raj couldn’t sort. The options show in the MBUX but can’t be enabled. He sent me the new steering wheel controls for the Distronic as well. Very happy overall.

Great thread. I always wondered about the Intelligent lights on my GLE 43, because of this thread I confirmed it's not an option to turn them on and off in the menu like the owner's manual states. I remember the corner function which I had in my SL63 and thought it was great. I have a GLE63 on order right now and will get this and some other things done once it arrives.

Just to clarify for those pondering doing Intelligent Light Coding. Your vehicle must have SA CODE 640. If in doubt, you can email RJA your VIN before ordering, and they will confirm.

Cheers,

When I did the conversion of Halogen to LEDs on my daughter's CLA. I got an OBD connector that was pre-programmed. All I had to do was insert it and push a button. Didn't have to do anything remote. These guys were out of China and are good at this. I wonder why RJA can't do it this way? I did it three years ago and it has worked perfectly. In case of a re-flash by the dealer you'd just do it again. I suspect the China guys have figured out a way to code the selected options to work automatically upon insertion of the connector instead of having to do the different option selects remotely like this guy. If RJA could do it this way it'd be a game changer for his business if it's possible.

IDK, but I would not allow anyone located in China anywhere near my vehicle, computer, cell phone or smart sprinkler system (basically any piece of technology).

RJA is a well established actual brick and mortar store in the UK that I've come to trust after interacting with them. Any issues you have they respond right away and will help you if you encounter any issues or want to make changes.
With one of these Chinese dongles, even if they're legit, who will you go to for help if something goes wrong or God forbid, you brick your vehicle's computer?

Cheers,

Not saying or implying to use these guys. I just wonder if it's possible to do it this way and I suspect it might be.

Prob because your use case was very specific (updating the headlights), whereas the coding by RJA is a la carte and there are a myriad of coding options to do, which requires someone to have coding knowledge and the tools to do that remotely on the fly, based on what you want done.

There are other products on the market that can do this for other makes. Assuming MB is no different.

No contact from RJA

Contacted RJ Automotive for a quote to enable the headlights on my US GLE 350 with adaptive lights. They said they couldn't quote a price without my vin. I sent it the same day and then never heard back (10 days). Not sure I want a company this unresponsive "hacking" my Benz. Seems unprofessional. Why did they want my vin to just never respond?

RJ provided a very satisfactory coding experience for my GLE tweaks. I did find that he was slow to respond to emails (maybe just very busy? ), but I had great success with using whatsapp messaging with him. Here is the number from his contact page on his website -

Got response from RJA

I got this response pronto from RJ Automotive after posting here:

"Unfortunately this upgrade is not suitable for your vehicle as you have LED high performance headlights and not the Multibeam headlights."

My mistake. I understand that there's no soap here but a reply seems appropriate.

Yep, I'm new and this was my experience
