It’s nice to have for longer trips on the Freeway…probably handy in heavy traffic if you drive much in a large Metro area. There is more safety involved with cross traffic & mine also seems to use the Distronic function in city traffic with DAP turned off. My car starts to gently brake if I approach the car in front of me too close unless I’m using the gas pedal.
If getting DAP meant cutting out other items for total vehicle price, I could easily get by with standard Cruise Control.

I like it, I’ll take all of the safety features available. I like the cross traffic feature and the feature that applies the brakes if the car in front of you slows or stops suddenly.

Sadly most of those features should really be standard these days. I don’t have it as I bought off the lot but if ordering I would include it.

Highly recommend. Additional safety features are nice but the “smart” cruise control makes driving so much more enjoyable. I just set a speed and have the car follow the car in front. It steers for you - although the car warns you to keep your hands on the wheel every 30 seconds or so.

Get it
I would get it for sure. I have it on my GLE 350 4Matic. I just got back from long road trip. I used it for 90% of the time on my 10 hour journey. It also helps with driving fatigue since you aren’t actively driving the car. I didn’t hit much traffic as most of the driving was done at night time but it slowed down when other cars were in front of me. I also used the automatic lane switch feature and it worked great.

Add me to the chorus of people recommending you get it. The cruise truly reduces your workload on long trips - I can drive 14 hours from NC to NY with the confidence of a "second set of eyes" to maintain a high level of safety and mitigate fatigue.

As others have said, if you take long highway trips it is a must have. If you never drive long distances, and your only freeway experience is during rush hour, you don't need it. In heavy traffic, I find distronic leaves too large a gap between you and vehicle in front of you, and the result is you constantly get cut off by aggressive drivers which causes the system to brake abruptly....angering the driver behind you and resulting an another gap whereby you get cut off again...until traffic clears.

Adjusting the following distance to the closest setting only partially eases the problem, because in comfort mode, the car is a little lazy in closing that Gap.
Changing the setting to Sport Plus, wakes up the engine/tranny and aggressively keeps that Gap much tighter.
I haven't been cut off or angered a following driver since I started using Sport Plus in heavy traffic.
However, since it's always on the gas and on the brake to maintain that distance, fuel economy suffers.

As you see, some like it some don't. We wouldn't have gotten the car without it. 2022 GLE 450, and I use the active cruise almost anytime I'm driving. Period. It's the Wife's car and she has to drive 76 miles round trip in rush hour. The majority of the time she uses the active cruise. Being an executive, she makes use of the almost autonomous driving at those speeds (always on phone/hands free). I have all the nannies active and we've learned how to drive around the quirks. Such as misreading an inactive school zone speed limit sign etc. We also live in an area that is frequently foggy with ridiculous amounts of deer used to "hand outs" (literally stand in middle of roads). The collision avoidance alone has been worth it. To each their own but all the bells and whistles are what attracted her to the car.
