(Kinda) Hypermiling in the GLE450?!!! ...and 10k impressions
I took a roadtrip from New York to PA over the weekend in the GLE 450.
Going out I hit some moderate traffic and by staying at 55-65 mph I pegged a 29.5 mpg average. No AC mixed 87 and 93 octane, tire psi factory spec.
On the return trip I believe I had much better grades back to sea level. I stayed generally 60-75 mph and tucked behind faster rigs for aero benefit. Stayed off of cruise control (it doesnt seem to allow coasting overspeed). Also hit heavy traffic and feathered and braked mildly keeping momentum. I managed 32.4 mpg w occasional (COLD in seconds) A/C and 50:50 87 and 93. Tried to keep the E active as much as possible. Pretty impressive for the size and aero of this truck.
10k update, Service A done :
Overall the truck has done its job as sold. Runs well, gizmos worked 9.5/10. MBUX is not bad, engine data excellent, android auto works fine. The app has been very good. Very comfortable. Very spacious for coolers, chairs, logs! No towing yet.
Issues :
1. Rear view mirror camera fault... waiting for OEM part from Germany will be done under warranty. Wait time = ??? ...infinity? This causes adaptive headlights to not function ... I may do it myself if I have time... 'cleaning the lens' of condensation stains. 😒
2. The navi has some incorrectly mapped areas.... odd as I'm metro nyc and you would think it would be better - eg. my Honda Civic Si has zero issues, but I use waze to be aware of - hazards ahead - anyway.
3. OTA navi map updates have stalled and hasnt downloaded... sits at 3mb outta 403mb. Dealer proposed it would still download.🙄
Overall I am Satisfied w purchase ... primarily bc of the driving dynamics for an SUV and impressive economy.
