I was just browsing Tire Rack to see if all-seasons were available in the 22” OEM tire sizes and was shocked at how expensive tires are in the 22” OEM tire size.

The only all-seasons available costs $900 a tire lol. The “normal’ summer tires costs $600 to $900 per tire.

That’s just crazy…. Not sure what’s going on with this size. I assume—based on the fact that they’re so expensive with most of them on back order—that this size is not used much.

Unfortunately, the only Mercedes size where several manufacturers make a good selection of tires is 20".

The 22” OEM size is: 285/40R22 and 325/35R22. You can search Tire Rack by make and model and it will bring up the available tires for that size.

$4,000 for tires that might only last 15k miles lol. That is more expensive than 22” HRE Flow Form wheels, which are, as of now, $3500 for four per the quote I just received. Something is majorly wrong with this picture.

What brand and model tires do you have? Believe it or not, it is worth getting a quote from the dealership. To my surprise, they came $200 cheaper than Tire Rack on a set for my previously owned W166

Has anyone tried using a slightly different size tire that is more common? It would have to be similar to the overall diameter but may be narrower or wider.

I know some people with staggered setups end up going square without issue on AWD cars.

I run a square setup in winter using the factory front tire size all around on 20” wheels. Most people wouldn’t notice any difference in normal driving. The taller sidewalls from 21” to 20” wheels let the sidewall flex more in quick cornering turns at speed. It’s a slightly different feel but almost imperceptible.

I did a search for tire sizes vs car make and model and there’s actually a lot of tires available with XL rating factors, including all season, that are relatively cheap.

Anyone know why they don’t show up for a model search? Is it the speed rating? Aren’t our cars locked at 112 MPH anyways?

When you state using a different size do you mean you are changing the wheel disc as well? Assuming the 20 or 21' will not go into a 22' disc?

Probably the Speed rating and it could also be lack of matching one of the two factory tire sizes (with the exact same tire) if you are searching a vehicle that comes with 21/22’s with offset wheels.
The top speed is higher than 112-on the GLE AMG 450-130; your GLE 53 is 155.

No, If you search by tire size versus make and model on America’s Tire’s website for example, additional tires will show up. Like the cheaper Niito NT420V that are all-season in our size that cost less than half the ones that do show up for our model. I looked at the speed and load rating and they should work but why they get filtered out is puzzling to me. These Nittos show up for my BMW 22s.

Also, if you go to tiresize.com you can enter our size tires and it will show the closest size equivalent. I’m going to see if there are alternative sizes that fits our wheels with a greater and cheaper selection of tires.

After some research, this is probably the best in terms of overall diameter and width matching: 275/40R22 front and 315/35R22 rear. The differences are just 0.3 inches for diameter and 0.4 inches in width. Choosing this size brings up Continental Premium Contact 6 SSR, which costs roughly $1,900 for a set. Not bad. This also brings up a relatively cheap winter tire at $1,500 (Continental Wintercontact TS).

You can probably do that for under $2k with 20” tires and get one of the best winter tires, the Michelin Pilot Alpin SUV. IMO, 22” don’t make very good winters.

That's quite an assortment of sizes and ratings. I'd be careful about mixing without some further research.

Also, try a source other than Tire Rack. They don't offer a complete selection.
Maybe they will, now that Discount Tire has bought Tire Rack.

Nobody is mixing anything. They’re each a set. I put them here for pricing reference. Each make and model has two price points for front and rear. You can add the set to your cart.

Edit: I tried posting the link but it won’t work like that. You have to select year, make, model …etc.

Dunga, one thing I noticed is that the two less expensive ones aren’t XL rated. Might explain why they’re cheaper, unless I’m missing something. The GLE needs XL rated tires I believe.

For the choices that came up for me, I entered 2022 GLE 53 Coupe.

plus you need a speed rating of at least V, W, Y or Z to match the limited top speed of 155. Actually V is 149 unless you get it in a MO.

Yesterday we installed the Scorpion Zero all seasons on my wife's 580, and they're feeling great so far. Although they're backordered everywhere, I found them on eBay (very recent 2022 production, even). Not much more expensive than the PZeros and have a bit more tread wear.

Tire prices are just bonkers right now. While I’m not an expert in these matters, I believe high oil prices, high inflation and general price gouging are all influencing what we’re seeing when it comes to new tires. I checked a quote I got for 22” wheels for my BMW in 2020 and they were 30% less back then! $425 vs $550 for the fronts.
