Magic Vision Control Retrofit..

Could it be as easy as adding the magic vision wiper blades to my GLE? Nah... probably not. Anyone know for sure? It'd be nice to have them for Winter time.

Checked with the dealer. New wiper arms, hose to the washer tank and the the blades. More trouble than it's worth to me. Was hoping for a retrofit with a different arm hose and pop the new blades on. Oh well.

I actually did it myself few weeks ago. The wipers skipping drove me absolutely insane and decided to give it a try.
The arms are direct replacement amd you need the new blades.
I didn't connect the hoses or electric as it was to try it out first. So I just disconnected them from the arms.
A day and night difference in the sipping of the blades. It's still there but not as nearly as bad.

What else was involved other then replacing arms and blades? A new hose to reroute or you used the same one - anything else? Thanks.

I didn't go as far as doing the hoses and wiring for the blades. Just a straight swap of arms and blades. I am still using the sprayers that are attached to the hood to spray when needed. My main issue was the skipping of the blades.

Doesn’t magic wash only spray on the downstroke of the wipers - so there must be a control unit to achieve that ? Also, doesn’t it heat the washer fluid, so again a unit to do the heating ?

I just came across the part numbers list. In case anyone is interested in doing the upgrade without the washer fluid and heating option.

Not sure I understand the purpose of spending ~ $340.00 and countless hours replacing everything, if it doesn't provide the functionality of "Magic Vision". All you wind up with is regular wipers. Am I missing something?
It is like adding an "AMG" badge to a non-AMG vehicle - doesn't do anything.

I guess you are at least getting the water dropping directly onto the glass (from the wiper arm) rather than the less precise jets under the hood.
however (unless I’m misunderstanding), if you only do these parts I would imagine the water will be spraying on the up and down wiper strokes which will make visibility really bad when driving.

Can you also see the parts for the heater and I imagine some form of control unit ?

Can anyone with Magic wash confirm please, my understanding that the water only sprays on the arm downstroke, just in front of the blade, hence you only have 20mm of wet glass as it works.

He is still spraying from the hood, not the blades. So just an expensive blade swap, IMO. I would; however, be interested in it if he gets the entire package working.

The main reason why I spent the money was to get rid of the well known and insanely annoying wiper blades skipping problem. And I am happy to say that it did!
It took an hour to swap, not countless hours.

After 3 visits to 3 different dealerships and wasting countless hours of giving "certified" technicians a chance to fix an issue that should have never been there in the first place from the day I wrote a check for $80k the few hundred bucks and a lunch brake didn't seem so much.

Well then, I am happy you accomplished what you set out to do. I do understand the frustration with MB wipers. However, if you ever do decide to tackle the full conversion, then please let us know how it turned out. It is something I might be interested in doing.

Did you try at least aftermarket wiper blades from Bosch or similar before going gang-ho?

only sprays on the downside and yes it is heated. Love em wipers until replacement time which cost a little fortune. I think just replacing the rubber blades would work but will tackle that after a few years.

Did you ever figure out the hose and electric parts and did you ever install that part of magic vision?

Edit: Nevermind I asked my SA and he said he is unable to purchase the control module that would allow the whole system to work, ie the sprayers in the wiper blades. Without the module you're stuck using the under hood sprayers. Bummer.

I rented a Nissan Rogue with wipers that sprayed along the path of the blade. It worked great. It was really nice to not have any impaired vision while cleaning your windshield.
