Automatic breaking system question
Our 2022 GLE 350 has more of an advanced auto breaking system then my previous 4 or 5 MB SUV's we've leased. It has activated a few times when I backed up in parking lots when it detected oncoming vehicles. I know with previous models when going forward, the only time it would apply the breaks is when it detected a possible frontal impact. I never had that happen though. My sales associate explained on previous models the auto breaking system would not function if the brake pedal is applied. Is the 2022 the same? I ask that because I just had a front fender bender the other day consisting of me running into the car in front of mine while trying to pull out in traffic. I thought the person went already so I started to go not realizing the car in front of me was still there. Yes, stupid on my part. I ended up hitting his trailer hitch ball with the front right part of my bumper under the headlight. No air bag deployment. I was going under 5 MPH. My question is why didn't the auto brake engage? I didn't apply the brakes until impact. Was it because I wasn't going fast enough for the system to work?
