It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting the new interior and screen layout although the steering wheel has been updated. Just looks like minor changes to the lights and bumpers although the taillights looks significantly different.

I think the V167 facelift at least gets MBUX 2.0? That first appeared on the W223, with slightly different interfaces because of the orientation of the screens, similar to the W177 A-Class facelift that was revealed a few days ago?
I guess it works out because a lot of us do prefer the current orientation, while others don't.

Definitely possible. I didn't even realize the A-Class facelift featured it.

I'd like to see how the new version of MBUX works, but no touchpad is difficult to swallow if they follow the A-class facelift. I don't use hey Mercedes nor do I ever like touching the screen for fingerprints.

^^ Agreed. I do just fine with the touchpad and steering wheel. I will not buy a car with a big center screen. Every time I see a video or review with one or a pic it's a greasy mess. Center screen is an eyesore like a big pimple in the middle of your forehead as well as a greasy petri dish of fingerprints every time you look at it. I do not want to take my eyes off the road to glance over just to hunt and peck on some ridiculous screen. My God what were they thinking! Dual 12.3 screens or that particular layout should be the standard with the right mix of tactile buttons and switches for common used items like they do on the W167. I have full confidence that they'll screw it up in the next generation - just my opinion.

Agree, although many hated the trackpad on the pfl, I don't get the point of that small storage area that replaced the trackpad, what do you even put there? Your phone? There is no wireless charging plus it will just slide around and out when driving, coins? keys? Just to create more rattle?

I really wish the new steering wheel had permanent buttons for changing audio tracks. The only way I’ve figured out how to advance or rewind tracks on the steering wheel is if the audio is in the center part of the instrument cluster. I would much rather prefer a more permanent capability.

If not from the steering wheel, with the MBUX track pad, you press the fast forward button and when it pops up you swipe up and down to change tracks. You can also use the right trackpad on the steering wheel to swipe up and down once you press the fast forward button on the MBUX track pad.
I feel like the 2020-2023 GLE is going to be the sweet spot because that new steering wheel is not good. Maybe it's better in person but from the pictures it looks cheap.
Design-wise, I'm biased and prefer the looks of the wheel in my C63, but concede the wheel in the current V167 is better because it has the cruise control buttons on the wheel instead of that little stalk (which I don't really like).

If that is the only thing holding you back and that you like all the other changes of the facelift GLE (that being said got to wait till the official reveal of the facelift yet to decide), it is possible to swap the steering wheel with the old one I think at least with the two trackpads one and sell the OEM one.

I just don’t find the track pad very convenient versus having permanent steering wheel buttons. I don’t want to have to take my hands off of the steering wheel just to change channels.

Agreed while you're driving. To me I use the track pad for more stationary type use. For example fiddling with settings or programming a station or the navigation before I take off which is easier then the steering wheel as I rarely use the touch screen. Once you are on the fly the steering wheel buttons then have their use.

I believe the slot is for emergency use if your key fob dies.

I think the bigger question for me is if Mercedes will be updating the existing MBUX 1 to version 2 or something close to it. Before there seemed to be little chance but now that MBUX 2.0 (or some sub-version) makes it into a horizontal layout, there is a chance...
That would be welcome news for existing owners.
