I just noticed that the edges of my touchpad is cracking on all sides. I saw on the forums that there is a service bulletin but that only seems to apply to the old command touchpad. Pictures are below.
I messaged the dealership but they told me if it is cracked it might not be covered under warranty because it considered damaged. There is no way I could have damaged both sides simultaneously to look the exact same. Is there another bulletin for these new models touchpad?
Remember warranty only helps prevent arguments. If you believe its a fault and have not done something to contribute then just tell them it’s their issue.
Reach out to MB Customer Service...your dealership apparently doesn't want to go through the machination of filling out the paperwork. Remember, years ago each dealership received a monthly warranty funding allocation to use at their discretion. Maybe it is still in effect. I would go up the dealership management and see if you get it replaced under warranty.
I'd try to clean it up a bit before showing it to them again. It doesn't look particularly well-cared-for. I can see their point.
It also looks like there's a film covering it. Looks unusual.

Same here.. I would make it look like you took excellent care of it and there is no way they could blame on you.
Mikapen is right, what the heck are you doing to it? Sorry but it looks abused.
I hope you have good luck though.
Funny thing is I barely use the middle touchpad. I use the steering wheel touchpad more or touch the actual screen as it is faster. I click the bottoms maybe 5 times each week on the middle touchpad.I have already had the car 3 years now.
I agree with @mikapen - it looks like there is a film on top. Anyone remember when they took delivery of theirs and if it had something on the trackpad? Usually the dealer removes all that crap, but I drove around in a car for a year that had a film on the bottom of the steering column and I didn't notice it until it started peeling off.
On an unrelated note, the center console on my GLE started cracking on the driver's side and MB replaced it under warranty with no hassle. When you get it checked out at the dealership just say it should be something covered under warranty and try to argue it if they make a stink about it.

There is definitely a type of film on the pad that appears to be stuck. I never realized it when i took ownership. All plastic was removed (so i thought). When i try to push it up from the edge there is a small air bubble. Any ideas on removal? @mikapen

I dont own a MB but I've had other objects that have a "film" that look like it can be removed. Theyre not meant to be removed.
For example, my monitor has a matte finish thats actually a really thin film (I can see the outlines of it at the edges where the monitor goes from matte to glossy). It came from the factory this way and it is NOT meant to be removed.
I would leave it alone before the dealership claims that you damaged it yourself.
Looks like a protective plastic...I'd see if it lifts in a corner with a plastic razor blade personally. I'd also keep my car way cleaner... yikes what is going on in there???
The center of the touchpad is rubbed or scuffed. Why?
Long nails. For the OP, that peeling is a known issue on the track pad. Get it replaced under warranty and buy one of those amazon plastic cover and you can abuse that thing like no tomorrow and it won't get scratched up. Also, keep that vehicle clean. If that was my vehicle I will have a field day inside cleaning that up. Try to get it clean like this picture before going to the dealership and have them replace it. If you showed up with that kind of interior they might say you might have abused it and deny the warranty claim. This picture shows the touchpad cover and I think your GLE will love it.
