These 48V 167 cars will see values drop like a rock to zero after warranty expires, once the reputation gets into the preowned world.

Some states such as California allow Lemon law protection if you bought the used car from a dealer and it is still under factory warranty.

But I think it only costs $350 to replace.
You've unwittingly discovered another advantage of the 48 volt system. Thanks for pointing it out.🙂

100%! The cost even outside of the warranty isn't that much to replace the 48v battery. It's probably less than replacing the hybrid battery in a Toyota hybrid.

If the 12 volt Lithium Porsche battery is any example, it might be a little more. Porsche Cayenne owners are paying $2500-$3000+,,, but Porsche prices are always nosebleed. The price of the battery might be less than the labor for installation and registration to the vehicle! There might not be a DIY option.
This entire “emerging” technology with Lithium batteries has the earmarks of a pending disaster. The GLE battery has a sufficient volume that replacements will probably be available in the future. That might not be the case for a lot of other’s. Battery tech is in it’s infancy and a high obsolescence probability. Many BEV vehicles could be worthless when the battery is out of warranty. A replacement battery could cost more than the value of the vehicle…if a replacement is even available.

That federal 8 years & 80,000 mile emissions component warranty is nice and thankfully covers the 48v system in its entirety.
Hopefully the lithium batteries stay in stock, the lithium starter battery in the w222 S63, GT, and others has been very difficult if not impossible to find ($2,500-$3,000 to boot).

Any one still experience issues with their 48v battery after the march 23,2023 recal?
Hi All,
Well, after 26,500 perfect carefree miles and 4 road trips up and down the East coast, I received the dreaded battery message today! What is different from the older car batteries was that the doors unlocked with the remote, the screens inside lit up as usual, the seat moved as it should, but when I tried to start the engine…nothing! DEAD! Funny how the message comes up that says “Stop vehicle” when it was parked and wouldn’t start! It gets towed to the dealer in the morning. 😡

But from your first description it sounded like it was a wiring issue, not the battery. Is that still the diagnosis?

Finally got a straight answer from dealer
apparently GLE has a recall with AC drain plug clogging near passenger footwell and it leaked all over the wiring and short circuited basically everything. My car shouldn’t have been effected based on VIN but it still was.
makes you wonder if Mercedes just grabbing VINs out of the hat and saying what’s effected or not.
my 48v battery also is testing out on low end so since interior is coming out, they going to replace it too! Both jobs are equaling out to be about $50K job

Someone spilling a drink, melting snow over time or a leaking water bottle might cause the same issue if Mercedes hasn’t made any changes to seal the area.
Our Audi SQ5 had a recall for a similar electronics issue in the rear passenger area. They provided a waterproof seal of the area.

The recall you mention was for some MY 2020 GLE’s when the drain line was improperly routed during production-letting condensation build in the footwell. Your car might be similar if someone on the production line got sloppy. I watched the Service Tech check mine (it was OK) by pulling back the passenger side carpet to see if the drain line exited the footwell properly.
