I've read through a few transmission related threads on here and didn't see the exact scenario I've experienced.

Out of the blue on the way to work, the transmission decided not to shift beyond 5th gear. Would only use gears 1-5 regardless of trans mode or throttle input. Also popped the CEL. I let the car sit until lunch and tried again. This time it would only shift in 3rd gear I believe. No 1,2, 4-x.

I called MB roadside who picked it up at my convenience with a comparable loaner provided by MB of Cary. I can't say enough about this dealership and service department. They've been phenomenal with this issue as well as having the 48V battery replaced last year.

The issue with the trans was the solenoids or solenoid pack needed to be replaced. Just a heads up incase others run through a similar scenario with their trans.

 

Was it something covered under warranty or out of pocket?

 

Yes it was covered under original factory warranty. I'm at about 31k miles. I also purchased the ELW and the service department believed the repair would be covered under that as well.

 

There are a few related threads that just posted within the last few weeks. The reported gears are different but it’s the same issue: it won’t upshift.

There’s another thread very chronologically near as well. The other posters haven’t reported their fix, but maybe they’re related. Bottom line: the transmission in these cars are crappy. Mine lags, hesitates and clunks.
