Brake squeal

Gle350…20,000mi. Started noticing a brake squeal when coming to a slow stop. I’m not an aggressive driver so it seems odd to need new pads at only 20k mi. Wouldn’t the brake light indicator come on to tell me I need to replace pads instead?

Squealing is more likely glazing on your pads, than worn pads.
Try being an aggressive driver for 20 minutes and see if the glaze goes away.

First, find a safe place. This could be a track or an open stretch of flat road. Be sure that you are able to speed up and slow down multiple times, away from other vehicles.

Speed up to 35 mph.
Use moderate brake pressure to slow down to 5 mph.
Do not come to a complete stop.
Repeat 2-3 times.
Speed up to 55 mph.
Use strong brake pressure to slow down to 5 mph.
Do not brake so hard that the ABS activates or the wheels lock up.
Do not come to a complete stop.
Repeat 4-5 times.
Drive for 5-10 minutes to allow the brakes to slowly cool down.
Use light brake pressure when needed.
Try not to come to a complete stop.
Park the vehicle and let the brakes cool for an hour.

I have to do this all the time on my X5. I think BMW considers brake squeal to be a feature.

This.
It can also be debris which often can be addressed with fewer repeats of the hard braking but not to a complete stop.

One other possibility is a lip on the rotor if you didn't replace rotors (or had them properly resurfaced) the last time you did brakes. This would cost some money to take off resurface the rotors and put them back on again at which point you might as well get new pads.

Yup like mentioned, OP should try a bed-in procedure first.
