Those are much better. I never understood why the previous 19s were so puny. Wheels aren't bad, either.

Hello !
I have the pre-facelift GLE with the 19" and therefor with the 255/50 r19. The thing is in my case, i want to change the tires from 255/50 r19 to 275/50 r19.
But i don’t know if that would be safe for the car and if it’s okay to do so, also regarding the width of the rims 8" while other GLEs with 275 profile tires have a 8,5" width of rims.

Checking the specs on several tires in that size, the acceptable rim widths are 7.5"-9.0". 8.0" is not an optimum width from a lateral support standpoint, but will work. Will give good curb protection. While a better diameter than the 255s, 275/50-19s are still 0.8"-1.0" smaller OD than the 20" & 21" options.

Thank you for your help !
Yeah they will definitely look 1.0" smaller than the 20" and 21" but i guess they will clearly look better than what they look now.

Why not go for 275/55R19? Those are the new stock 19" size.

Might be worth checking with the dealer if the ABS/stability control needs reprogramming.

Because there’s a difference of 6,4% which is way above the 3% recommended, but with the 275/50 it’s 2,7% of difference. The speedometer will need to be reprogrammed and as you said check also the ABS and stability control. I have to check with the dealership if that’ll be possible.

If you're having it reprogrammed anyway, I wouldn't worry about the difference. And as noted above, if you were to put on 20s with the stock tyre size, the same would happen anyway

how much mileage do you all typically have before requiring a change of tires?

i'm just over 30k and dealer suggesting changing them out. Have AMG exterior so looking at 21s staggered - evaluating at Pirelli Scorpion A/S, Michelin - Primarcy Tour A/S, any others you guys recommend?

What do you have now? I'm at 22,500 on my Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/Ss and they are at 7/32" so should make it to 30k (will replace at about 4/32"). I have been very happy with all aspects of these tires.

My experience is that 30k is about all I can expect. I've been happy with Pirelli, Continental and Michelin over the years, generally. I read Tire Rack test results (not reviews) carefully when choosing. They all seem to go about 30-35k miles on these heavy M-B's.

Incidentally, I've had some luck with proration over the years, as some of the tires have a longer tread-wear warranty. So pay attention to those details, and keep your rotation receipts (if you're not staggered).

Good luck!

Am at just under 4/32 and closer to 3/32 - i'm with Pirelli Scorpion Zero as well and looking at that as well as some other options. thanks - for some reason, i was expecting at least getting to 45-50k before requiring replacement for these. i guess it is after all a heavier set of vehicles for these so don't last as long - all things equal like driving style, weather conditions, etc.

Did you ever replace your front tires? I also have a GLE with 19 inch wheels and think it looks terrible. Just wondering what size you ended up with and if you had to recalibrate it? Also, did you do anything to the back tires? Thanks!

I finally decided to upgrade to 20" rims and 265/45 r20 tires, meaning no need to recalibrate anything.

going to splurge on a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S - am just over 33k.

question for you all - this tire shop has the required service charging me $35/tire for "COMPUTERIZED WHEEL BALANCE & NEW RUBBER VALVE STEM OR TPMS SENSOR RECONDITIONING", and then has the following OPTIONAL service - "FACTORY RECOMMENDED 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT".

Would you recommend doing the 4 wheel alignment? Or is there no need given that it's a staggered fit.

The staggered fitment has no impact on alignment. Have you noticed any uneven wear or polling in the steering? Good to do every few years. I just had mine aligned by the dealer at 5 yrs/ 40.5k mi for $291.

thanks, no haven't noticed uneven wear and haven't had mine done yet. would you recommend doing them at a dealer vs tire shop and also wait until i've driven the new tires for a bit? like you i have 2020 and coming up close to 5 years soon but at 33k.

as an aside, i thought i'd get better mileage out of these All Seasons more but don't want to risk heading into another winter season with barely any tread left.

A good tire shop would be fine. No need to drive on them for a while first as the alignment is using the wheels themselves as a reference. 33k is not bad for a vehicle this heavy; I will be replacing mine about the same, though I run Winters a few months a year.

You will need a "Road Force" balance on wide tires. That would mean a Hunter 9100 Series balancer or better.
All Mercedes dealers are required to have that balancer, but few tire stores have them.
If you go to a tire store make sure they can do a Road Force balance.

The "Wait after Mounting" addage refers to amount of grip you will get in the first 100 miles or so.
There is a mold release agent applied to the tire in the mold, that makes the tire feel slippery until it's worn off.
You won't have full traction for a 100 miles or so, but it doesn't affect balancing.
