How difficult to replace center console switch?
MY 2021 CPO GLE350 wasn't prepped the best by the dealer... long story, but I think they ran it through the wash and sold it. Was a great price and we love the vehicle, but the center console switch buttons (Map, Radio, Tele...etc) are "sticky" when we use them. It appears that someone spilled something and even though it all looks clean, there are some sticky substance underneath. The dealer I bought it from is hours away... (wasn't easy to find a nicely equipped CPO GLE - still isn't.) I tried cleaning under the buttons with dental floss and alcohol, but that did not work. So - I am thinking of buying the switch and replacing it myself. (My local dealer's service center is very good and takes great care of me, but this is not a warranty issue, so I am not going to try that route...especially since I did not get the car from them.) Has anyone taken the console apart? How difficult is it? Also - does the switch need to be coded with Xentry or anything like that or can I just replace the part and it will work? Thanks, all - appreciate any insight you may have.

I would try to hit it with some electronic contact cleaner first. I would definitely mask around it just incase but the stuff is pretty good and since it’s aerosol it packs a nice punch. It dries up quick so it won’t damage any electronics. I bet it was some sort of sugary drink that spilled and then dried in there. I would hit it with the spray then quickly blot it with a rag and repeat until the stickiness is flushed out.

Almonte, I was afraid to do this thinking it would damage the plastic or wood trim. But - thanks for the idea - I found a plastic safe contact cleaner and it appears to have worked. Great idea - thank you.
