How does a GLE 350 de drive on empty battery

How does a GLE 350 de drive on empty battery
From what I've read on these forums, the GLE hybrids are unable to recharge the batteries while driving using diesel engine power. So I was wondering how the 350 de drives when batteries are dead. Reason I'm asking is I'm a bit worried that on longer trips like holidays, with 4-5 people in the car and a trunk full of luggage, and dead batteries, the diesel engine alone will be a bit too weak. So anyone have real life experience?

The drive battery never goes "dead". There is a minimum level of charge that is maintained so that acceptable acceleration is available. The battery charges via regenerative braking and while coasting. I had the previous model PHEV and it had a selection to charge via the engine if needed. Are you sure that option doesn't exist for your vehicle?

I don't have the vehicle yet, I'm still contemplating. I have read/seen in reviews that the battery is not charged through the (diesel) engine. Like here: https://mercedesblog.com/test-merced...st-or-nothing/
There is no longer a Charge mode for charging the battery while driving, using the heat engine. Due to the very large battery, charging the battery with the help of the heat engine is no longer efficient because the fuel consumption increases a lot. Instead, Mercedes offers what no competitor offers: charging the battery at high-power DC stations.

It drives pretty well, before my 350de I used to own a 350d. With 5 people in the car (2 adults and 3 kids) on 0 battery charge it drives pretty well and it accelerates decently. It doesn't accelerate as fast as a 350d which is understandable since it's only a 2liter disel, but for such a havy car full of people and an empty batter of 400kg it's doing pretty good job accelerating.
