I have on order a GLE 53 AMG Coupe that is supposed to arrive in about 3 weeks. I see the 2024 GLE 350 with exclusive line and the GLE 53 AMG Coupe have the same Burmester surround sound and Dolby Atoms. What exactly is Dolby Atoms and is it the same thing as the previous Burmester 3D surround system?

Wondering now that you’ve owned the car, is the burmester w/ Atmos as good as the 3d burmester?

Burmester High-End 3D is 25 speakers and almost 2k watts including a 400 watt subwoofer in the rear. Current Burmester with Dolby/Atmos is 590 watts with 13 speakers including twin FrontBass subwoofers. I've heard (no pun intended) the Dolby/Atmos is pretty good for what it is and a step up up from the previous Burmester. To keep it simple, Atmos is basically software and mixing which can only go so far depending upon watts/speakers. A good analogy is to think of amplifier watts as your car's horsepower and speakers as good enough tires capable of putting that power down. Another differentiation in the High-End 3D is the addition of ambient light around door and headliner speakers which the standard set up doesn't have.

I will say I do notice the Burmeister with Dolby Atoms in the GLE 53 AMG Coupe is louder and sounds better than in my prior GLE 350. In the 350 I would usually need the volume to be around 60-75% to hear it well but in the 53 Coupe I can keep it around 30%.

I do not have the high end 3D speakers to compare it to so I am not sure how they compare.
