Last fall I ordered a custom build 2024 GLE 450. The car arrived this week, but with the wrong rims. I ordered the 21" AMG Multi Spoke. The vehicle arrived with AMG 20" Twin Spoke. The sales manager is trying to tell me that builds rarely come in 100% accurate, because of supply chain problems and will substitute with what is available. He further said that I could re-order, but the next car may come with the right rims and the color may end up being wrong or the interior altered. Personally I think this is all BS. Has anyone heard of build substitutions with out notification?

Sounds more like the sales person put in the wrong code for the build. I ordered my 450e Dec 11th and it's not scheduled to be built until April 11th and got confirmation that my "custom" build is locked in and therefore I should get exactly what I ordered. The dealer must have the rims you ordered in the service parts department and you would think it's just a quick swap of wheels...since you did pay more for these wheels.

I agree. The sales manager is trying to cover for the salesman by saying the plant frequently swaps out items because of supply chain problems since 2020. I asked him to swap out the rims. He later had the salesman contact me saying the rims I want have no availability in the USA and would need to be shipped from Germany. The dealership has a few other GLE with my chosen rims. Personally I think it's all lies trying to get me to accept a build they messed up on.

Since these rims are still available on the MBUSA and MBCanada website for customer builds..you would think you should have gotten them. Assume they would remove rim options for 21's if they are no longer available...as I look at usa builds compared to what we can build for delivery in Canada...the Wheels are different?

Yes it happens occasionally.
During and following Covid, it happened more often.

The fact that the wheels are not available anywhere in the US, that tells you that they probably experienced a shortage during the build.

You can verify whether there was a mistake on the dealer's part by looking at the purchase order and confirmation that you received soon after the order was placed.

If the PO was correct, then the factory made the substitution, for whatever reason.

Look at that confirmation before you accuse the salesperson of malfeasance.
You want the dealer on your side, even if they made a mistake.

We ordered ours on January 16. It took 4 times of our sales associate going back and forth with the sales manager reviewing the build before it was correct. Each time he came back to have me audit the build, I found something wrong. According to them, the order bank goes flaky and the triple check is required on every order.

Mine better come through matching my order exactly, or they will be changing out what is wrong (if possible) or re-ordering.

When I ordered my GLC300 Coupe in late 2019, that didn't cause any issues and came through exactly as ordered. Of course that time, I happened to be working directly with one of the sales managers, and sat their while she configured every option.

Now to see if the March 18th build date holds. We shall see.

As people already mentioned, if you have your original PO printout, check what's in there. Then, ask the dealer to print you full report for that PO. The report will show if any modification were made by your dealer/factory/VPC. What it may not say necessarily is WHAT modification were made, just the fact that they occurred. The printout will also show your final config that you can compare with your initial one, again, assuming you got your PO specs and signed them.

The dealer is notified when changes are made. if he can"t show you the notification it's because they made an error when ordering.

My friend just go her GLE 450e....with 21in AMG 5 spoke wheels and SR up here in Vancouver said they would never downgrade your wheels to a 20 inch if you ordered a 21inch...but maybe another 21inch wheel. Plus you paid a premium for the larger wheels and tires. I still think the dealership needs to take ownership of the problem and get you the right wheels...or very least give you back some $$$ for this. I see lots of 21 inch AMG 5 spoke wheels available in the parts department to have winter tire packages...so, sure "somewhere" in north america there are the wheels you ordered..

Did you by chance order the Night Package? That package will replace the 21" multi-spoke wheel with the 20" wheel. I noticed that when building my car.
