Hi everyone.. I know the dash cam issue has been discussed before, but i want to know what package does the car need to have that feature?

I tried to get it from Mercedes ME but its saying my car is not compatible.

 

Dashcam is a standalone option.

 

I get it but I could not buy it from Mercedes ME store that can add it to my car. How else would i be able to get it then?

 

I assume it's an option installed at the factory only. Don't know if dealer service could assist or not.

 

Search would help. Don’t know if it was available in 2020. On my car, a 24. You need augmented reality which was part of both trim packages. There is a factory installed camera that is needed for augmented reality. If you have that camera, the dash cam can be activated remotely. It’s a $200 one time purchase. I believe this was all just discussed yesterday.

Correct, my 21 E450 coupe has Augmented Reality and the Dashcam factory options.

My GLE63 has augmented reality but it apparently was added at the dealership vs the factory and as such they say the dashcam option is not available unless AR was factory installed. I believe they enable it per the subscription (yearly) now if it is available on yours.

 

Again, if it’s available, it’s a 1 time charge. Permanently enabled.

 

Go after market as the quality of the videos are not good.

 

actually, if you have the Augment Reality package the dashcam is used for that also, I had my services 3 months ago. It turned out to be a module failure and cost me $300 to replace and back in service. I woold first look below my rearview mirror to see if a dashcam is even there in the first place, IF you're looking for it to be used and a traditional dash cam like they use in other countries. MB doesn't allow it in the US,

 

What do you mean that MB doesn’t allow it to be used like a traditional dash cam?

 

I fought this issue for several years. The final answer from MB was that in 2020 they did not have the chips to allow the cam to record. I have all the needed options, just not the electronics to record to an added hard drive. MB said for 30K, I could change out the electronics and make it work. The Dashcam option was offered during the software update renewal. I signed up for the option, but the system canceled it and refunded payment for it. The 2020 GLEs got screwed.

 

Agreed! My 2020 GLE has software that refers to the dashcam that simply does not exist and cannot be retrofitted in any way. I just assumed that the option would 'go live' in the next model year. Recalling back four years ago the GLE 450 had a long wait list so I took the first one I could get my hands on, this one with leather and the heated cup holders but no virtual reality. But the enticement of a future dashcam would not convince me to get the 25 GLE. Way better options out there from EV's to other ICE vehicles. By no means, I am not unhappy with my GLE as it has been amazingly reliable and comfortable transportation for the last 4 years.

My work associate was just involved in an accident, and his dashcam video was provided to law enforcement. The footage convincingly proved he was not at fault in running a red light, which the other party had argued. This is why EVERY vehicle sold should have a dash cam installed! Case closed

 

Went through the same issues with my 2020 450 and now my 2023 63. The camera appears to be an option that can be activated later but no dice! I ended up installing an aftermarket camera from Fitcammax and it looks 100% factory and works very well.

Hi, yep I am in the same boat... picked up my GLC220D PP yesterday and went to set up the dashcam according to the user manual.... app isnt shown in teh apps menu and its not part of any package that I have on my car.... I have all available packages.... spoke to Mercedes me and they said its not available for my car !!!!!but couldn't tell me why... email off to the dealer

 

2020 GLE's (maybe up to 2023) in North America came with dashcam available if you had AR and were quickly cancelled by MB due to poor quality. Only way to have gotten it was through MB Me app and MB has long removed the option due to quality issues. You cannot code it back in either as it was app based.

Installation vids on the manufacturer’s web site for all makes/ models. Also on YouTube if you search by FitCamX product name.

The camera is segmented from the car and has no hooks into AR or other car systems. To me, that's a huge advantage because there's no room for glitches or bugs.

 

Another explanation to add to the story. Maybe the system could not maintain the data stream when continuously recording. I have the full AR and the images all look good on the screens. It would have been easier on all if MB had just told the dealers.
When/If I purchase another MB, thinking 26 GLE to replace the 20, the dashcam will be working before we close the deal.
I have a BMW X5 now after being disappointed with the overall appearance 24 GLC. BMW was ordered with all the safety equipment and the dashcam. Dashcam works well, but you have to manually active each time you start the engine.

 

it's on my 2020 GLE 350. Essentially, if you have the Augment Reality package on. You should have the Cam right below your rearview mirror mount on the windshield, an can see the cam lens in the windshield from the outside of the car. On mine I had to replace a module that failed. was a $300 job from the dealer to get it working again.

 

At least on 2024+ GLEs, the cameras can start automatically based on your profile settings
