Question Engine Warning Light

I always turn to this site for some good advice, thanks in advance.
I have a 2024 GLE 350, I’ve had the vehicle for several months, yesterday my check engine light came on. I was using the car throughout the day without any prior indications. My gas cap was securely on, which is a common issue causing the light to go on. When I turned off the engine after reaching my destination, Costco, and restarted the car, the light never reappeared. I filled up the tank at Costco restarted the car and it was fine. Since this only happened once should I bother bringing it in to the dealer, I have not yet used the car today?

There are thousands of things that can trigger warnings. A scan tool is the only way to know what it was for. Once you know that, you can make an educated guess on whether you want a dealer to look at it or not.

CEL is one of these few things that you can use even a basic scanner for. Alternatively, you can call your dealer and ask them to pull the stored code remotely, so you won't need to bring the car in just for the check.

If the light was flashing it would indicate a serious problem. If it was steady and went away, it may have been a blip in the system. Anyways, you should take it to your local autoparts place. Most will read the OBD for free. The problem should be stored, even if the light is out. Even if they don't have a reader configured for Mercedes, it will still give you codes that can get you close to what the problem was.

I believe this is part of the Mercedes Me setup. Mine keeps asking me to specify a dealership which I purposely have not done as I don't want them to have any more access than they already have.

It's somewhat under appreciated as dealers typically don't advertise it much. In your Mercedes.Me app, you can go to "My Garage" section and set a dealer of your choice using "Preferrer retailer: Service", it gives this dealer authorization to access your car's diagnostics info, read the codes, refresh the data, clear the codes etc.
