Having a 2024 with the manual that doesn’t show what type of oil for the Gle350- what is the right grade of oil? 0w20? 0w40?

All fluids are listed on their website here

Thanks for the link but couldn’t navigate this UK site for my US car for the type of oil. It mentions AMG engines as well as diesel. But not mine.

In that case, you could check the operator's manual for the oil certification for your specific engine.

Thanks once again but in the 2024 manual it is blank!

Your OM should spec an MB sheet number -- something like 229.5, for example. Try drilling deeper into the operating fluids site at https://operatingfluids.mercedes-ben...ory/engine-oil -- the MB sheet numbers are listed there. Click on the sheet number that your OM specifies, and another page will pop-up with a list of oil brands and oil weights that are compliant with the sheet number.

Alternatively, you could view the digital version through the car's infotainment. Search for the term engine oil.

Yeah, I thought that was strange that portion of the manual is blank. The hard copy in our 2024 is blank. My initial search found guys on REDDIT saying they called 3 dealers and got 3 different answers. Awesome!

The below link says 229.71 which is a 0w20.

https://www.mbusa.com/en/owners/manu...lling-quantity

You can order a 5L jug from Wally World of Mobil 1 ESP X2 for $27.97. It is approved for MB 229.71 and has that written on the back of the bottle.

While I went with the fancy Motul for my first oil change (dealer did the initial change at ~8k miles), I may just switch to the Mobil 1 ESP X2. Its easier to get and cheaper.

Thanks for this info.

0w20 (229.71) seems to be the answer.
I just changed the oil after 4500 miles with 0w40 (229.5).

MB's owners manuals are nothing more than junk. Somebody is tasked with cutting and pasting pages from past model years and other current year models to complete their assignment. Nobody ever proof-reads them. I guess MB's attitude is nobody reads them and won't notice they're worthless. "The Best or Nothing" -- nobody proof read this tag line either.

I have an inexpensive 12v fluid pump system for sucking up the oil from the dipstick though I do prefer changing the oil from the drain plug, going under the car and removing the undertrays to have a look around and inspect everything. Just removing the undertrays allows you to see if anything is dripping or leaking.

I have a W204 Sport and its very low to the ground, I have to drive the car on wood planks just to be able to fit my floor jack under it. I do not like going under the car, dont like feeling trapped. When i do work that doesnt require removing the wheels like oil changes and serving the transmission I use wood ramps I made. I have 2 floor jacks, 4 jack stands and a bunch of large pieces of wood timbers I utilize. I'll even shove wood under the arm of the floor jacks so they cannot lower if they were to fail.

I will go on the Mobil1 website and look for deals and rebates. Once in awhile they have $5-10 rebates and its good for Walmart, though not Amazon. Sometimes they have cool promotions, I once got a nice Mobil1 cooler bag for free. Right now they have a deal for a $25 pre-paid card for buying 10 quarts at Napa autoparts and Napa has 5 quarts for $34.99, so its around $22.49/5 quarts. https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/promotions

I use Rhino-Ramps -- about $50 for a set of two. Makes oil changes from underneath a breeze and safe. Harbor Freight's low profile floor jacks require only about 3.5" clearance.

I ended up returning the jack. While it would have worked fine, I forgot that its minimum height is much too tall for a sedan should I ever have one in the future. Oddly when I tested it, it slid fine under the rear but the front, I would have to raise the suspension to slide it under. This is with a GLE 580 with E-ABC.

Got off my butt to change the oil and the drain plug I received from FCPEuro is a standard bolt while our GLE350 is a plastic plug. I have PDFs for both styles, but I was under the impression I had a normal bolt.

Any idea where I can order one? I have searched BA01.45-P-1005-01MRT and can't find it easily.

Can you read a part# stamped on the drain plug? Theres a few plastic drain plugs im seeing online. Looks like the part# is stamped on them you should be able to read. FCP has a bunch.

Thanks Tim. Looks like the first and third items in your picture are the same part: 0029902017

FCP Euro sells 2 German made plugs and 1 Chinese. Best I can tell, these 0029902017 parts should fit.

Sigh. Not sure why this is harder than it needs to be. The Oil FIlter from FCP Euro was also not the right part.

Can anyone confirm this would be the correct filter for a 2024 GLE350? It looks the same but you can never tell. It had that weird nipple on the bottom which I have never seen before:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...IaAmQSEALw_wcB

I did the oil change but had to leave the old filter in place. Not the end of the world, especially as it only has about 6k miles on it currently. I need another 6k miles until we hit 20k total. At that point I will take it to a dealer to for a Service B.

What about buying the filter from the local MB dealer? You would know the correct part number. Autozone and Advance Auto probably have a Mann or equivalent in stock. I use the cheapest $10 store brand filters on my Cayenne and get excellent Blackstone results with 5k-6k mile oil changes.

Nearest MB dealer is 1.5 hours away. If they were closer I would definitely go there and get the correct parts, and then hit FCP Euro for the next time. The MB USA Parts website is a **** show.

I had a 986 Porsche and would also use FCP for the filter, new drain plug/washers, etc. I never did Blackstone but I am always conservative when it comes to oil change intervals.

What year Cayenne? What flavor of oil do you use?

MY20 9Y0 Cayenne S with EA839 2.9TTV6. It is a fun car. Fill quantity is 7.6qts of Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 C30 conformance.
