Opinions on this leather in a brand new car

I just looked at a new car with 30 miles and the leather on a few seats looked like this. Please let me know what you think and if this would be a deal breaker for you.

Warranty

Dealership replaced my seat covers under warranty. You could ask for them to replace the ones you feel are unsatisfactory as a contingency IMO

That doesn't look like a new seat to me.

If I am not mistaken...the seating surfaces are leather and the side are not - or the reverse.

Exactly! Perhaps too many heavy-set people looking at the car while it's on display at the dealership? Not sure if I should move forward with this. one of the rear seats also looks like this.

If it bothers you now, it'll bother you in the future. I'd pass.
OTOH, leather is a natural product, so it's never perfect.
You might be able to massage the seams to get that seat to behave. I inspect all my seams and usually find a few places that need massaging, which has turned out to be a permanent fix.

If you are otherwise happy with the car, and it only has 30 miles, you can condition the leather later on.

You have to condition the leather anyway, when you get a car with leather seats. Over time, the seats will be really supple.

The lower part is normal for leather seating - BMW Merino leather will respond the same way.

However, the upper circle isn’t - I had the passenger side seat cover replaced after those creases became actual cracks in the leather. None of my other seats exhibited that type of damage (and they’re never used). Mercedes warrantied the seat cover.

The first time I asked - the dealership told me it was normal. I took closeup pictures and sent that to MBUSA along with pictures of my BMW X5 seats at similar mileage with perforations. It was authorized for replacement the next week.

Since then, I’ve had no other issues with the other seat covers - they all wear normally (like the bottom circle).

This looks like normal wear from a driver that habitually slides off the edge of the seat when exiting. I'd be as concerned about the condition of the stitching and of the seat structure itself. Walk through any grocery store -- we're not a nation of svelte physiques.

Not acceptable for a brand-new car. Looks like corpulence is to blame.

I see. Maybe you should remove the other circle, because it caused me to overlook what appears to be an early failure.

Now that I see the defect, I agree it's defective. (!)
