Hi everyone — I’m investigating a very specific issue with an AIRMATIC feature on the GLE/GLS (W167 platform):
1) What exactly did the dealer/technician do? Xentry control‑unit update? (module N51/2, BCM, etc.) Ride‑height calibration? Control unit replacement?
2) Do you have workshop notes or MB Techline case reference?
Thanks in advance.
- “Lower when entering” setting correctly lowers the suspension to –2.
- When driving above ~30 km/h (20 mph), the car returns to level 0 (as expected).
- However, the setting becomes OFF and MBUX shows “Function not available”, if screen is displaying the car settings screen (if displaying anything else, nothing is notified)
- After that, the feature does not re‑enable automatically. I must be manually activated it again.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression you have to activate it every time. It has always reset to off above 19mph on mine . It is a pain to go to the screen and select every time I am in the driveway or a parking lot (below 19mph) and select. There are other posts on this and I do not even think there is a coder that can make it do as we wish it should.

and fwiw, my old lx has the same 19mph setting adjusting back from a high setting, and about the same to auto raise out of low. Perhaps it was a regulatory thing. Cars with adjustable suspension, generally only automatically lower at higher speed when in the proper setting and adjust in that range vs the slow speed setting range.Originally Posted by Sparky66

Thanks everyone for the replies — I appreciate the input, but I think what I am experiencing is different from what you’re describing.
I fully understand that the system returns to level 0 above ~19–20 mph and that this part is normal.
However, in my case the issue is not the height change, but the system disabling the feature completely:
- After raising back to level 0, the MBUX shows “Function not available” if the vehicle menu is open.
- The setting is turned OFF automatically.
- The feature does not become available again unless I manually re-enable it.
- The option is normally selectable and lowers the car to –2, which also indicates that the feature is supported by my configuration.
From what I can tell, this is not the expected behaviour — especially the “Function not available” message.
If anyone here has had the feature restored by a dealer (software update, AIRMATIC control-unit update, calibration, or MB Techline case), I would really appreciate the details.
Thanks again for the help.

However, in my case the issue is not the height change, but the system disabling the feature completely: Mine reads disabled until next time after driving I am below 19mph
- After raising back to level 0, the MBUX shows “Function not available” if the vehicle menu is open. Mine does this as well
- The setting is turned OFF automatically. Mine does this as well
- The feature does not become available again unless I manually re-enable it. Mine does this as well
- The option is normally selectable and lowers the car to –2, which also indicates that the feature is supported by my configuration. Mine reads disabled for a period (not sure how long as I don't leave that menu screen open but I have seen the message) until next time after driving I am below 19mph
From what I can tell, this is not the expected behaviour — especially the “Function not available” message. Perhaps I misunderstand but it is the same as mine has functioned yet I never tried to enable again before driving some. Perhaps the compressor is taken "off line" for a cool down period and as such reads the "Function Not Available" but mine reads that as well and I assumed it is as designed? Stupid design IMO and I always felt if selected it should stay selected until deselecting.

I think there is concern about inadvertently crushing the cat.
Like pinch protection on the sunroof and windows.
Or having to hold the second seat folding button forever while it completes its task.

I think you are correct. The lowering stops also if you open the door. I think it is to prevent damage. Originally Posted by mikapen
