Now that I have a GLE400 ordered, what do I do with the "rear seat prewiring?" Does anyone know of an aftermarket dvd/tv/rear seat entertainment system? A local stereo installer/seller near me, I want name any names "Rogers Stereo", was about useless when I went to them and asked for help.
If you want rear seat entertainment - with (1) the ability to place source material from the front head unit to the rear - in addition to playing rear source material and (2) to get rear seat entertainment sound from the GLE's system speakers - then if your order is still changeable then ADD factory Mercedes rear seat entertainment - which is the ONLY rear seat entertainment system that will give you 1+2 above.
Factor installed price is the lowest - and frankly dealer-installed same system after delivery between high dealer cost on that system - and with what is required t0 change to install that system - dealer installed after delivery price can well be about $3500 - and factory installed if I recall from memory - is about 1/2 that.
If all you want to have are two rear screens - that don't need hookup to the front - that play thru headphones - then get 2 ipad holders and ipads - or Mercedes accessory has a accessory rear DVD system - and many other aftermarket suppliers have more simple rear dvd systems as well

Thanks. I'm using an ipad holder now that I swap back and forth between my Tundra and my wife's E class. I only need one screen and I did not know if there was an easy/cheap after market option since I will already have the "pre wiring" there.

Also, rear entertainment pre wiring also gives you power passenger headrest on the GLE 300d and 350. Without the option, the headrest is manual. It is standard on the 400. I guess the wiring from the power headrest comes from the pre wiring.
This is true, ask me how I know. To answer the original question, the "pre-wiring" can only be used w/ MB's dealer installed accessory rear seat entertainment system. So in that regards it's useless. But the pkg does give you lumbar support and power headrest on the passenger seat.

And yet another reason to just buy the 400 over the 350.
By the time I added stuff to the 350, I was only about 2000 off of a 400. It's a no brained but you do usually have to wait on the 400.
Now March 1st needs to hurry up and get here!!!!!
