Front License Plate Mounting Bracket?
Have a 2016 GLE 350 bought new in November.... How do I go about installing the original front license plate holder or is it a better choice to take it to a dealer and have them do it? Thanks!

I agree. Unless you just have to have it, leave it off.
But if you dont, I've seen brackets before that require no drilling. Look online. It should be an easy install. I would look for one that fits an ML of some sort. They make brackets that clip on somehow. I would start looking for European tags/plates, I think I've seen a universal plate holder on some of the sites.
Good luck

Just a little confused because you said you got it in November.
Anyway, no the factory or dealer does not have to drill the holes. If you just want a tag and no bracket, get some short self taping screws, look behind the bumper where you want the tag to be and make sure it's clear and drill it in (make a smaller hole with a drill and tiny bit and go slow). Don't use the power drill either on the screw because you will probably strip them out. Simplementation DIY. Or, look online and find one that clips to the front bumper somehow. I wouldn't drill anything since you might want to remove it one day (you've gone 3-4 months already without one)

I have had multiple Mercedes. The Dealer installs the front plate holder for me. I have had no issues in how the do it. They use self tapping screws.

My state requires as well. On my BMW, I was able to get there beforehand so no drilling. I keep the front plate in the trunk just in case a cop mentions it. Can show it and then order a bracket. 2 years so far, only pulled over twice, no mention of the (lack of) front plate. On the GLE, they put it on before I got to the dealer. Pissed. Will be coming off soon.

Just to add, I took off the dealer's plate frames the other day. Went to take off the front plate as well and sure enough, the bracket is screwed into the bumper. So for now it stays. My question is what if after my lease it is sold/bought in a state that doesn't require front plates? Does the new owner live with a blank bracket?

Gle 350 front license plate bracket mounting solution
After a LOT of research, I have decided to order the Skene bracket for my new GLE. (Google Skene license plate bracket)
There is 1 1/2 inches of depth for the bracket. It will sit in an under position -with the license plate hanging down in what they call the TOP position.
The position is just above the lowest grill.
I will use 3m very high bond tape after using an adhesion bond improver.
According to my research, this will hold like nobody's business. I can also still add a screw if I want-through the bracket.
I thought I would share with the GLE owners my solution for the pesky front license plate bracket problem.
Be well everyone!
