Steering wheel icon
sorry, never mind, forgot it was to do with the lane assist in cruise control mode
does anybody know what the small steering wheel icon in the display means? It does not have the exclamation mark after it. A person that works for me just got a GLE and we can't find it in the manual. Thanks

If they have the drivers assistance package (the star in the front grill will look like glass if they have it) then that's what it goes to. It will be white when it's on and searching and go green when cruise is engaged and it helps drive.

So I've used this feature on one road trip now - and it's kinda weird, I mean it'll be green and doing steering assist and then, for no obvious reason, turn white and disengage. It strikes me as being kinda bonkers, but how have other people dealt with it? I mean, once you get over the "oh my god it's steering" feeling, it's kind of weird to rely on it and then have it just periodically stop on you (with no other warning other than the light changing colors)

It is timed to deactivate after 10 or 15 seconds (or when it senses it can not continue it's ability).
You can hack it by making it think you are holding on to it by stringing a can of coke to it.

Once you get used to it it is actually pretty confident. Just takes some time to develop the trust in the system - then you will use it 99% of the time in stop and go traffic while you watch for jerks hopping lanes - it doesnt do too well in that area (but itll be as jerky as you would in stopping for the jerk so its ultimately 6 of one, half a dozen of another)

@johnnyderm - oh wow, thanks for the vote of confidence there - I actually was using it in stop-and-go and greatly appreciated the help but didn't know how much I should / could trust it. Though gradually I got more faithful. It's great to read that you can really really use it.
