Exiting a parking spot with Active Parking Assist
I've tried a dozen times to get the car to exit a parking spot I've entered using Active Parking Assist and I can't figure out how to do it. I've attempted the steps in the manual and nothing. Has anyone else figured this out?
Steps in the manual:
Steps in the manual:
- Turn on the car.
- Activate the turn signal for the direction you're going to exit the spot
- Put the car in D or R

i think you have to hit the "ok" button on the steering wheel at some point to engage the programming. saw a video somewhere with a dealer sales rep demo-ing. haven't tried, probably never will. good luck, ron

Had this option for 2+ yrs on an E class. I didn't know it would exit the space too. Plus I've never seen it give me the "ok menu" to exit like it does when you try to park the car.

Never knew you can use parking assist to exit too. Funny to see some examples. For parallel parking the system seems perfect. Perpendicular parking with this system is a bit sloppy.

Can the GLE do perpendicular parking? I've tried a number of times but no luck. I watched some mb promo video and it appears that even the CLA does it so I have a hard time to believe the GLE doesn't. Has anyone tried this?

Ok, I don't know how I did it but yesterday when I was waiting to exit a parallel parking space, the "ok option" popped up on the screen and when I hit ok, the car drove itself out of the space and into the first lane of travel. In just under one of having my GLE and almost 3 years of having my wife's car with the option, this has never happened.
Other than sitting in the space for a very long time waiting for traffic to clear, I don't know what I did different.

Now i m curious if the car is smart enough to detect for traffic coming from the lane that it plans to exit to and whether it will stop the exit process as another car approaches.

Good question. The car did immediately stop once it got out and straight in the lane. But no traffic was around me once it started out and I was just curious as to how far it would drive itself out.

I cant seem to get my active parking assist to work! Once i get to a parking spot i dont get the arrow pointing to the open spot. Is there something else i am not doing to get this feature operational?

Describe what you are doing? Are you driving by an open spot slow and long enough for the car to detect it? Once you get past the spot, put the car in reverse and the screen should give you the option to press "ok" and the car will take over the steering. I usually assist the car with the gas and brake a little.
