Remote start - how to get into car?

Any ideas on how to get into car after remote start without car turning off when doors are unlocked?

Not possible, security feature. When started remotely, engine shuts off when a door is opened. In case someone tries to take off with the car while it's running I'm guessing.

Remote start in my Toyota is like that. However, in my Ford truck, remote start stays running when you open the door. You cannot put the truck in gear though. When you turn the key in the ignition it remains running and only then you can put the car in reverse/drive.

That's precisely the reason MB went with this design. However, here's why it doesn't make sense. Just now, I decided to test something out. I left the Smart Key in the kitchen, out of range of the car. Then, I used Mercedes Me to unlock the doors. I got in and re-locked the doors, also using MM. I wanted to make sure the Smart Key was completely taken out of the equation. Next, I used MM to start the engine. At this point, the car had no idea I was sitting in the driver's seat. The engine started as usual. I then tried to shift into gear. I was not able to. The shift lever moved, but would not take the car out of Park. So, assuming you used MM to remote start the car and a thief broke the glass and climbed in, they wouldn't be able to drive off. If this is the case, then there's absolutely no reason for this idiotic design that shuts the engine off as soon as the door is opened.

With this crazy design as well as the overall unreliability many people are experiencing, does MB really expect people to pay for MM after the free period expires? Of course, this is a rhetorical question.

That's exactly what they expect. That's why I used a temporary CC no. when I first registered. It expired 24 hrs. later. They'll be in for a big surprise if they try to charge my card.

I have a chevy colorado pickup with remote start. I often use it on cold mornings. You have to lock the doors first or remote start will not work. You can unlock the doors and get it while it's running but you can't put it into gear until you stick the key into the ignition. It works pretty good except the seat heaters will come on until you get in and turn them on. I have yet to use the remote start on the GLE because it's always in the garage and it's my wife's daily driver.

Or you use a CC that has an expiration date sooner than the free trial period will end. Done
Mercedes does send a reminder letter in the mail and I also received an email from them that time frames were coming up. So they at least attempt to remind the owner in advance so they can make a choice at that time.

I figured you would have died from Asphyxia before it started. Haha. I never use MM but tried it again a few times the other day and again it takes it over 2 minutes to get signed into the app (I know this because my phone screen timed out and tried to close twice). And then in my 5 minute walk to the car I got to it right as MM cranked it. Great car. Horrible app. But that is neat to know and makes no sense why the car has to turn it's self off.

I think most of the MM problems are related to their server, not the app itself. That still doesn't make a difference. It it doesn't work, it doesn't work. The reason is pretty much irrelevant. The only problem I have with this latest version is occasionally the picture of my car doesn't load on the home screen. All of the features of the app still work. If I "force close" the app, it fixes itself. I'm running Android. I don't know if you can force close apps with iPhones.

Agree it seems to be a server and/or bandwidth issue. Mercedes-Benz: pay for more bandwidth and for more server horsepower.

apps can be force closed on iPhones.

When I delete the app, and reinstall it on an iPhone, performance improves for one occurrence, then reverts to signon delays and failures.

Chassis, how are you force stopping them. I double click the home button and the flick them off the screen. I’ve been told this is the way to do it but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Also, does this app get any better in the newer (2019) models? Aren’t they using a different/newer app?

That is the correct way to close apps on an iPhone.

What works better for me is to delete the app, redownload it and start again. I think there is better performance of the app in low driving times of the day. The app seems to be more consistent for me after 7pm local time. Again a sign of insufficient server bandwidth or horsepower or both.

2019 vehicle models have a newer app that to my understanding is not compatible with older model vehicles.

How to force quit an app on iPhone:

1. Double click the Home button to bring up the fast app switcher.
2. Navigate to the app screen you want to quit.
3. Swipe up on the app card you wish to shut down by flicking it up and off the screen.

There's new app called Mercedes Me Connect, but it's only for 2019 models and newer. It has a lot more features. However, the reviews are almost as bad, so don't feel like you're missing out on much.

Oh Lord! I think if I had to uninstall and then reinstall just to get the dang thing to work, I'd uninstall it for good.
