Prospective GLE300d Buyer: Some Questions

Let me try to offer some clarity...
1) 2016 GLE300D4 - 2016's have ALL been built. There are no "open production slots" for 2016's.
There are total (4) Lunar Blue GLE300D4's on-the-ground/show-available-today on the West Coast - Portland. Seattle, Phoeniz, Albuquerque - each with their own interior/options.
West Coast there are about (7) Lunar Blue GLC300W4 and about (25+) GLC300W RWD Lunar Blue.
For 2016's - all have been built - and you're dealer can give you the specs of the (4) GLC300D4 - and you can call each dealer to see which D4 has what.
2) 2017's are "orderable" - yes, on 2016's the Night Package requires both Sport Package and Iridium Silver exterior.
Night package "effect" can be achieved aftermarket with wrap and wheel paint
3) 2017 gasser's are targeted for August release - and D's will follow "most likely" 4-5 weeks after that would be "normal" - however due to the VW fiasco no one can anticipate when Fed's will approve the D's for this new/gen/new-model-year.
The 2017 GLS350D - released gassers April - the update year for the current generation GL - diesel has NOT yet been Federally approved yet - and MB had halted production pending Fed approval - has nothing to do with the technical competence of the MB BlueTech diesels - the unforeseen delay is ALL on the Federal side.
If you MUST have a GLE300D - best to pick your best fit from what is available on the ground now - 2017 GLE300D no one will be able to give you a answer until Fed's approve that new model year on their own timeline.

Fabbrisd1, this is really good intel, thanks for passing it along. It might be worth contacting those dealers to see what the details are on those Lunar Blue 300ds but I'm chewing over whether or not I ditch diesel and go for the gas GLE. Seems like that should be no problem to custom build.

Alright, this thread is probably dead now. After researching all the available 300d model in the US, none of them really have the options I'm looking for so and given I can't order the 2017 300d, presumably until the diesel investigation is done, I'm gonna order a GLE 350 2017 instead.

I was waiting for the GLC diesel to show up, but decided to go with GLE diesel... Now I can't order GLE too? What ...! Any indication where this is heading to? Thinking of getting one from dealer lot. But what if EPA come up with some issue, have to deal with the recalls ? Losing value? Trade in?
Should I rush to get a 2016 diesel or wait and see how this plays out? I want a car before next winter.

Alright, this thread is probably dead now. After researching all the available 300d model in the US, none of them really have the options I'm looking for so and given I can't order the 2017 300d, presumably until the diesel investigation is done, I'm gonna order a GLE 350 2017 instead.
So try building both cars and look at standard features in the 350 vs the 400. They might be close.

I don't think it's a question of 350 vs 400, it's the diesel engine. AFAIK, all MB diesel models for model year 2017 are on hold.

I'd rather have a car built to my liking that's gasoline than settle for one that is diesel but not all the options I want. Sucks, I really wanted 300d. There's still time, my order for 2017 GLE won't get locked until later next month.
I love my GLE diesel. We get 38 mpg and love all the room in it. If you can find one now with the equipment you want, I suggest you get it. Who knows when the 2017 will be out. If there are problems with the diesel emissions, Mercedes will stand behind their product. You don't have to worry.

Just tested one 2016 GLE300d to compare with my wife's 2014 GLK250. The same engine, accelerates a bit slower and a bit noisier, but not much, very acceptable, drives great, nice visibility, slightly light steering wheel, much smoother breaks. The computer shows 25.5 mpg for the last ~3500 miles (dealer loaner) with average speed 33mph. So mileage will be great.
Since my dream GLC diesel still a dream, started thinking about GLE300d.
Any updates as far as when the vehicle will be orderable? Some dealers say - do not know, other say - it possible , but maybe will not be available. Nobody knows.

I'd be curious what other dealers are saying. My sales person might shoot me if I ask again anytime soon but I will in the next two weeks as August comes near. My production date for my GLE is end of August so I'd love to swap from 350 to 300d if the timing worked out.

If leasing, I wouldn't care about the miles as it will still be in warranty by the time it's ready to go back. Be sure to ask how are the miles that are currently on the car are accounted for. What affect do they have on your residual?

Wow. 15.2% is impressive. I would have to seriously consider it if it was close to my options (I think I remember you wanting some very particular options), but 3700 is a lot of miles. Ask for the certified warranty since it lasts longer than the new warranty if you plan on buying it vs leasing and keeping it for awhile.
Honestly though, I would out and get exactly what I want. I seem to like and enjoy my cars more when I do that.

My local dealer : $34xx for the 2 year.
Jeff Jackson @ Tafel Motors: the 1 yr is $1620 and $2,370 for the 2 year.
Erin Mahre @ MB of Santa Rosa: $2,470 for the 2 year.
Dan Boone @ MB of Austin: 1 year $1,620 and 2 years $2,370.

My wife is considering purchasing a 2017 GLE300d when it's available to order. We're just curious about one thing....what is the cost of an oil change on the diesel GLE vs. the gas model? I've been told that an oil change is in the hundreds of dollars? I can't seem to find the difference in prices for an A/B service for diesel vs. gas. Can anybody provide some insight?
Also, any new info on when the 2017 300d will be available? We will need it by the end of November when our current lease is up. We'd consider a 2016 if we could find one anywhere.
