I purchased my gel 450 coupe last march.
MY key less entry seems not to want to work at times.
took it in but they just changed the batteries and said the issue was resolved.
Same afternoon after I picked up the car the problem returned.
anyone having the same issue?

How is it not working? What is it doing? Is it not opening with the remote, its not working with the handle? What exactly is going on?

It simply will not respond. I have to unlock the door with the remote.

My biggest issue with the car is the eco restart issue.
I't happened 4 times and the dealer can not duplicate it nor can they track it down with the onboard computer.

I had no problem unlocking the car, but wasn't able to start the car with keyless start twice. I had to take the keyless start button off and turn the key to start.
I was told that if you push the lock button twice on the key FOB. it will disable the keyless start feature. I remember doing that because I didn't have the sound on when locking and wanted to make sure I lock the doors. Now I set up the car to sound when locking and only push the button once (if I forget to lock from the handle), I haven't had the problem since.

I've been reading that a few others are having eco stop problems, but I don't think MB has done much for the others or has a fix. And this may sound stupid and simple, but my other MB remote worked funny too once and I took the battery out, cleaned the inside of the key out by blowing some air through it and changed the battery. It seemed to work fine after that.

We had one ECO start problem - which ultimately tracked back to owner who is "two footed" meaning operates brake and accelerator at the same time.. ECO start feels "brake release" follwed by "accelerator"... we installed the Mid City Engineering hack so he can start-up with ECO start/stop deactivated... he's good..

I recently had the warning come on the screen "Replace Key Battery" when using my wife's key. So I replaced the battery.


Then the keyless go would not work with that key... Would not keyless unlock/lock... would not start by push button.
But it would lock/unlock by pressing the remote button, and start by inserting the key into the dash!


Tried replacing the battery again with no success!

There has been a recent recall with some coupes for Keyless/Start issues - like the Coupe goes dead on the highway - the recall is a reprogramming of the ECU.

On Keyless Entry - I have not had the issue personally - I have seen some owners when they grab the handle - they inadvertently grab/and touch the locking "dimple" at the same time - when the MB has both lock/unlock signals at the same time - it stays locked.

On Key Fob batteries - the problem is the Panasonic CR2025 that Mercedes uses - 5yrs ago Panasonic moved that battery factory from Japan (great battery) to Indonesia (not-a-good-battery).

When replacing Key Fob batteries - use Maxell CR2025 - ONLY in hologram package - as best made in Japan - $315 for $5 or like $5 for 15 on Amazon:

Thanks for that, I will try that.
For the record, the original was a Panasonic - Indonesia.
And I replaced it with Maxell - Made in Japan. But they were not in hologram pack. Does the packaging really make a difference?

HaHa! Tried your Amazon link. The prices vary from $3.21 - $4.95 with free postage to the US. But to Australia, the special postage is $291.10


Guess I will try the dealer.

The reason I mention the Hologram-Package only - there is a HUGE knockoff business in these button/lithium batteries - for example any Maxell CR2025 NOT in hologram package is a knock-off.. China knockoff battery can be imported to the US for USD$.03/.05 andf wholesale/retail from $.30-$2.00 each...crazy knockoff business in batteries...

Unfortunately on Mercedes fob batteries - it's like trying to change the course of the Titanic to get hq to wake up about the Panasonic/Indonesia not-good-batteries ...I'm crazed about it actually....

The only times we did not have the keyless entry work was when we hit the lock button on the key fob twice, apparently it disabled the touch sensor on the door handles and you had to unlock with the key fob.
