Speed limit "minder"...

We just took possession of our GLE 43 this week, and so far, are loving every minute of driving this thing!

We are finding new things everyday that we didn't know that it did, and that's always fun and exciting.

However, there is one "feature" that I thought that we had that I cannot seem to find anywhere. I don't know what the feature is called in MB speak, but it's a feature that displays a warning in the dash when you're going over the posted speed limit. I could have sworn that I read that in some MB literature somewhere, as part of some option that I knew that we were getting.

IF this feature does exist, I have yet to figure out how to make it work, or how to make it display in the console.

Was I dreaming, or does such a thing exist???

You have two distinctly different speed related notification systems.

One is Speed Limit Assist:

The second is Speed Alert. See video attached.

How do I know these things when I haven't even received my car yet? I've had three months to study the owner's manual and devour every bit on info I can find online.

Speed Limit Assist is what I'm thinking of. I looked into the Speed Alert thing, that really only seems useful if someone ELSE is driving your vehicle, OR if your wife wants to make sure that you're not pushing the AMG.

I don't believe that I have an option called Speed Limit Assist in the settings panel, but I'll check again.

LOL! I hear ya! That's how I knew all of this stuff before ours landed at the dealership as well!! We actually looked at an E-class at a different dealership, and I think that I knew more about that car than the salesmen did, or at least what the car was capable of doing...

Found it. It's covered on pages 190-191 of the manual. I did a search of the PDF Owner's Manual and couldn't find it. That's because for some reason they call it "Traffic Sign Assist". Go figure. Anyway, let me know how well it works.

*******************Update********************

Just noticed it's part of the Premium 3 Package. If you don't have this package, you don't have this feature.

I DO have Premium 3, and I do NOT have this option. I guess I need to check into it. Help says something about not being available in all countries. Is it available in the US???

This is what it says on Premium 3, and I have NOT noticed that it is displayed on maps, either. It is on the driver assist screen in the dash. More confusion...

Yeah, I saw that same graphic on the website. You'll probably come across it one day purely by accident.

That's good to know. I'll bet a bunch of handy features are TURNED OFF by default. Folks who don't like to (or know how to) explore the different menus will never discover half of this stuff.

so far, this is the only one that I've found that's turned off.

However, I'm not totally for sure what "features" we all have.

on mine, that option will display on the nav the posted speed limit AS IT IS IN THE DB. there are several areas around me that have altered limits and it shows as the original. (maybe a map update will change that.) i have no warning tones to indicate exceeding the limit (or i haven't found them). i have that feature in my kids' Subaru Imprezas. oh well, ron

I verified today that it is on the Nav screen. I could have sworn that read somewhere that it was audible, but maybe that was wishful thinking on may part, after reading the details about the feature that I posted above.

At the end of the day, more beeping might be a bad thing anyway. I still haven't figured out what all of the beeps are that it's making at me!!!

I also have the P3 package with Distronic Plus. However, I am using Apple Car Play so I do not see speed limit information on "my" Nav page, but it does show up on the assistance graphic whenever it is displayed. It also seems to change when I pass a traffic sign that modifies the speed limit. Other than that, there is no audible, alert, warning etc., that would serve to notify me that I am exceeding the limit or not.

I need to watch more of these MB YouTube videos. I've played around with the Command system some, but I'm sure I'm missing out on features on my vehicle

on my wife S90,you set the warning tone to go off where you want.I set it for 10 mph over the posted speed limit.

BTW.I was a little disappointed the the GLE 43 coupe doesn't offer a Heads up windshield display.

Check the video at the 1:16 point. I'm not sure what country this is, but it's pretty safe to assume it's not the U.S. I test drove a BMW X6 with the heads up display. It works great.....AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT WEARING POLARIZED GLASSES. Being that I ALWAYS wear prescription polarized sunglasses whenever I drive, this wouldn't work for me. You can still read the display, but the brightness is reduced by about 50%. It makes a huge difference.

That's an ugly looking HUD unit. In my Genesis G90 its built into the dash. You can't even tell its there unless you look down from outside the car on the driver's side.
