GLE Mercedes 300d
Mercedes Reliablity

Hi All,

I had 2010 ML350 earlier for 6 months and sold it as I didn't like its interior.
In October 2015, I bought 2016 GLE 300d. I would like to keep it for 10 to 15 years. My previous car which is Toyota Camry 2008, for last 9 years except the regular maintenance of 5k mile service I have not spend anything on any repairs.

I took extended warranty on GLE 300d up to 7 years. Shall I expect to keep this SUV for 10 to 15 years driving without any major issues, are Mercedes built to last long or are they built to be replaced frequently. Shall I expect major or frequent repairs after 7 years and are they very expensive.

Any one with holding Mercedes for long periods, please reply.

Where do you live? What is your driving style? Do you get into a lot of accidents? How on top of your maintenance schedule are you? What kind of gas do you use?

what he said.

also, i personally think most all vehicles built now are high quality and expected to perform for quite a while. but, depends on how you take care of them.

the flip side of that is mfgs using more tech and some complicated systems. things break and wear out. expensive things breaking cost money to repair, unless you can bend a wrench.

i buy and hold, so i take care of things. my 2004 escalade ext (avalanche) had expensive brake line corrosion repairs (i paid, but i blame gm); a cluster replacement (id'd by gm but happened after the extended coverage period -- not too bad tho); and the load leveler (ecu and compressor $$$) right before i let it go in july of 2015. 125k in miles.

2008 acadia (awd top of line) with 100k that had a recent front end (springs, struts, bushings etc). also the hid headlights had to be replaced recently, but on gm due to a known issue. probably would have had some $. the radio is now acting hinky and it will probably cost about 1,500 to replace, not ready to do yet. still have this, probably going next year or so.

2011 impreza standard trans that's only needed regular maintenance so far.

my previous mb's have had repairs. the ones that i felt should not have been necessary were covered by mb, even out of warranty. the others were wear. but, the last one i owned was before the surge in tech and the most complicated system was abs. i'll see how we do with the 2016.

long winded, but bottom line is i think they are solidly built and i like that mb stands behind their vehicles. take care of your vehicle and it will last.

and, i only use premium fuel in all my vehicles and only dealers touch the cars. not that i don't trust independents, just that it is hard enough for dealer techs to stay up on the vehicles in their stable, i can't imagine indies handling multiple brands (and i know there are specialists, just what i believe).

good luck, ron
