2017 MB GLE 350 4MATIC
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very close to closing a deal on a 2017 GLE 350 4MATIC and searching on the net that it may have issues with low beam headlights being insufficient for night time driving concerns me and has me re-thinking purchasing a MB. I need advice from my fellow 2017 GLE owners if this was a 2016 model issue and how is it really driving at night.
Thank you so much!!!!

Are you buying one with the standard headlights ? If you are buying one with the upgraded LED lighting package, you have nothing to worry about.
The concerns from people have come from the standard headlights, which essentially are the same halogen lights that are found on other vehicles.

If you want to see the differences before purchasing, just ask your dealer to test drive a vehicle with the different types of headlights one evening. Any good dealer will have no problem with that request.

Just saw your profile, I guess you have the Pkg 2 which includes the active led lights...

Yeah, unfortunately there is no a la cart option for the LED headlights on that model. There is a thread on this forum where people have done the work themselves to upgrade the headlights to an HID option which looks like is an improvement over the standard halogens. Some people have simply replaced the halogen bulb with a bulb in the 4500K range (if memory serves) and that has been a small help as well.
Yes, I do have the Pkg 2 on mine and the headlights are outstanding.
The standard headlights certainly aren't below the minimum allowed by law and if you are used to driving a car with halogen headlights, I'm sure you will have a similar experience with this car.
As I mentioned, if you have any reservation, just as your sales person to drive a vehicle at night that has the standard headlights and see what you think. Certainly worth spending some time checking out before you drop that kind of coin on a new MB.

Just like you I had a price that I was going to pay for the car, but I knew only the P2 option was acceptable for the lights. I had 2015 CLS 400 and knew what features I use in that car and the ones I didn't. So I did ala carte order for P2 and Panorama roof the things I wanted on the car. My car came out to $60,925 msrp. with HK and $720 paint upgrade Now I only have to wait 12 weeks to get it.

You have to get the upgraded headlights, its not really a question anymore (not a condescending comment). It sucks that MB decided halogen or expensive packages for LED without offering HID as standard. There are numerous threads about the halogen/standard lights. Im one of the people who didn't upgrade so I had to install HID. They really are that bad. I personally would look around, the audi q7 is very nice-you get much more for about the same price. The MB adaptive transmission will drive you insane.

So you upgraded to a 2017 MB GLE and did ala carte? How did you do a ala carte order, and what is HK?? 2017 MB GLE 4MATIC with paint, panorama roof, and HK @ $60,925 all inclusive or adding taxes and fees.

I went with rear wheel drive and not 4matic save $2k. I'm in So/Cal didn't have the need for 4matic. No running board, air freshener, Accessory Chrome, Rear Seat Entertainment or trail hitch either. All together that saved me $2k for stuff I didn't want or need. That how you get the car with P2 and roof for $61k and not $66.5k
GLE 350
992 Selenite Grey $720
114 Espresso Brown MB-Tex

413 Panaorama Roof $1090

Dealer fee $925

Your deal is not much of a deal to me. Although your location may play a part in whether you can get a steep discount. Here in LA we have 15/20 dealership to cross shop you car so you can get a good deal, if you are patience.
My SA, who I purchased my CLS from, off the top gave us 12% off. After a half hour, he came up to 13.5% and cried poverty, you no how they do. I'll make my last push upon delivery, I think I can get 14/15% off.
I'm purchasing the car through my local CU.

you mentioned an out-the-door price.... does it include taxes? You should get at least 10% off the listed/msrp number (before any taxes). anything less than 10% means you're paying extra.... good luck!

I think I am getting off around $3000 off the MSRP, I'll try to push it to the limit...anyone got any complementary maintenance with your purchases?

I would have liked to get a complimentary maintenance package with my purchase. I didnt buy it because I thought they were asking too much for it. I'd be willing to buy a PPM plan if the cost was better.

I bought a 4year maintenance package for $1400 -- this is for a regular GLE350. I guess you could include this cost towards that 10% reduction if the dealer is throwing it in as complimentary.
Personally the standard lights work for me but there're plenty folks here who have a strong opinion against it. I would also recommend against buying the extended warranty until you have time to drive the vehicle for a bit and decide to keep it long term. You can shop around and look for a better deal later on.

Find yourself a good independent shop in your area and save your money. Fortunately for me I've found a super shop in Riverside, that does "A" service $105+tax and "B" service $165+ tax. He only works on Mercedes, and does major repair work as well as the A,B,C,D services. Small shop but I like that, he will show you step by step what he is doing to your car.
