MB GLE 350d
A click in the steering wheel

Hi

I have a 2016 MB 350d GLE. The car is awesome and I love it. However, since I bought it I had to visit the dealer more than 7 times due to manufacturing defects or problems.
I recently started to feel (not hear) a click in the steering wheel when the car comes to stop or when it starts to move forward or backward. I'm sure it wasn't there and I drove another MB and it wasn't there.
When I went to the dealer, they told me they couldn't feel anything, and when they checked the car there was nothing.
However, I still feel it, and it drives me crazy.
I really don't know what to do, but I hope I can get some suggestions where to start and what to look for.

Thanks

We have a '14 ML with easy entry. Does your GLE have it? Interested in knowing if the steering wheel goes up and down when you enter/exit. Regardless, have you tried moving the position of the wheel to see if the click is still apparent in a different wheel position. BTW, the up/down feature on our ML quit. The dealer fixed but it happened again. Found on this forum that you could whack the top of the wheel to get it working again. The point it that the steering mechanism has all kinds of quirks.

Hello pjw1967

Yes, mine is equipped with a tilt/telescopic, easy-access steering wheel.
I've tried and moved the wheel position manually in all directions, but unfortunately, it didn't make any difference.

If my memory is correct, I had something similar on a 2005 SLK350. When we were moving slowly in the car and turning the wheel alot, there was a clicking and popping noise. I'm sorry but I cannot remember exactly what was done other then something was "greased" in the steering column. I also do not have the file on the car because we have long since sold it. But what can do is ask the dealership that fixed it for me. I'm going back there Tuesday morning for an appointment on my GLE so I'll try to remember and ask if they can pull up the old file and see what they did (if no one else chees in before then).
Good luck.

Hey, I'm sorry to say but we could not find anything. We had a lot of confusion awhile back between of a couple of E classes that we did and did not own anymore, so we decided to delete all the cars we did not own anymore. But the good news is that we may still be able to find it. I'm going to look around and see if I have the VIN from the car laying around somehwere. If I can find it then we can search that specific car and see what comes up. I have a loaner right now (a W213 E350 and don't get me started on this thing) so I'll look for the VIN before I go back and try again.
For now, keep calm.

I feel something similar on mine sometimes, i'm not sure if it is from the steering column itself or from the suspension transferred by the steering column. At the dealership they say it's ok of course. I feel it when starting or stopping with small speed but more vigorously like something moving back and forth a milimiter or so. My gle is with air suspension and my own investigation proves that if you raise the vehicle and then lower it the specific sensation disappears.

Sorry but I could not find the old VIN to look up the information and I picked up my car today. If I find it later I'll forward you the VIN and any MB dealer can look up the history of the car and see what was done. Maybe that can help.
Good luck.

Gle 450 2022
I have the same problem with my Gle 450, 2022.

Did you solve the problem in your car?
What was causing it?
