Wondering about switching to 295/40/20 wheels

I'm thinking over replacing my 20'' 9 inch wide rims with an aftermarket 20'' 10 inch wide to be able to drive on 295/40/20 tyres. The reason is I prefer much more the look of the car with wider tyres, but don't want to move to the OEM 21'' from the GLE63 because the ride quality will suffer and the rims become too prone to accident because of the low profile tyre. I know theoretically what to expect from the wider tyres, but the question is if anybody has done this in real life and how did he feel the change except for the looks - has the steering become too heavy, was there a significant change in road noise etc.

I don't think it's wise to have 295s all around. Even GLE AMGs don't have 295s on the front. GLE AMG with 21" rims have 275/45/21 on front, 315/40/21 on rear.

I am assuming it would rub if you have 295s on the front. Steering will be heavy, gas mileage will suffer.

The W164 AMG ML came with 295/40-20s. I ran these on my '06 ML350 for a time and they were fine. As you know they will be heavier and greater unsprung/rotating mass is not a goal, but the effect should be somewhat subtle.

That's true as far as the coupe is concerned, the GLE 63 SUV w166 comes with 295/35/21 non staggered without any rubbing I guess.
