little nail.....
Dealer says can’t plug it on the side. Need to replace the whole tire around $300 any advice?

Replace the tire. Can't repair runflats, can't repair any tire on the sidewall.

Yeah you are fine to replace tires single, but you can't repair the tire on the side like that.

thank you steel belted radials

i did have a dealer do a "plug" on a tire in a similar area. short term though. it was a light car and the tire was coming off in a month or so. consider yourself lucky it's low mileage. good luck, ron

Yep, replace it. Also, look into different stores for tires......Discount Tire would have replaced that for free. Good luck.

Dumb question, but: Are you certain that the screw penetrates all the way through the tire?

to me its not in the side wall of the tire. The side wall is the part of the tire between the rim and the tread. I would certainly get a second opinion and from a tire store vs the dealer. I think you can repair it.

or so you would think. right on the edge of the belt, so that's that. if you only do local driving you may want to ask about a plug, but probably not worth the risk. good luck, ron

No, once you get to within about an inch of the edge of the tread, that area flexes too much to be repaired safely. It will not hold up. Runflat tires are not supposed to be repaired anyway according to the tire manufacturer as they can't guarantee the runflat capabilities of a repaired tire anymore.

Yes, a plug may hold temporarily, but every one I've seen plugged on the side like that starts leaking again in a very short time. I've done it before to make it last a day or two until I get the replacement tire, but I would never suggest it to a customer.

Doubtful a tire shop would repair. You could try to repair yourself with a plug kit... I would not... While generally not a fan of aftermarket tire road hazard warranties, the past few years I've had at least 6 tires replaced on various vehicles...All were covered under a tire road hazard warranty. There is alot of road construction going on in Central Florida where I live.

If it was mine I would plug it. Your decision, however.

I had a nail in almost the same exact spot. It was repaired and I drove on it until the tires wore out… FYI.

They repaired it from the inside after removing the tire from the rim.

Mine was almost the same location as the first pic. Lucky I had (1) used tire in the tire stash with the correct size at the shop. I did not care since I'm replacing all (4) tires soon.
