2017 GLE350 4MATIC
Latest fuel economy report - 2017 W166 GLE350 4MATIC

22.5mpg, give or take. 2,000 mile round trip from the midwestern US to upstate New York and back. State and US highways, and interstate the whole way. Speeds ranged from 60mph to 75mph. Vehicle had driver + 1 passenger, and luggage. Comfort mode 99% of the time. Unfortunately there was a fair amount of 10% and 15% ethanol fuel used. Either I didn't have a choice, or I didn't spend the effort to find non-ethanol fuel. I live and travel in an ethanol prevalent region of the country.

The vehicle is a great highway cruiser. I felt more comfortable in the seats than in any other vehicle I have owned. I have the standard M-B Tex seats. My wife and I are average-to-athletic build bodies. Steering and suspension performance are great on most road surfaces and at all speeds. I have 20" wheels which are harsh on pavement discontinuities.

I am not impressed with the fuel economy of this vehicle. However, this doesn't change my view that the W166 is a great overall vehicle in many ways. Fuel economy is not one of the great things about this platform.

I have 2015 ML350 and get about the same mileage. Very comfortable on trips , I have 19 " wheels and I think the 20 " would provide a more stable ride.

2019 GLE400
I haven't been impressed with the mileage in my 2019 GLE400 either. The salesman trumped it up that it would be getting around 900km to a tank of fuel once it is "broke in" for lack of a better term. At 20,000km on the clock now, we might have gained a bit of mileage, but not much. Averages aboput 700-750km per tank. No ethanol here, I only use Shell fuel.

2016 GLE 350d
My 2016 GLE 350d has averaged 27.6 mpg since new - calculated accurately using the website fuelly. Last tank was 29.4 and I've had a few over 30 mpg and over 706 miles is my record on one tank. This is a mix of 2 lane rural roads back and forth to my country weekend place combined with city and freeway commuting to the office. I think its pretty amazing economy for such a big tank of an SUV. Very disappointed they aren't bringing diesels into North America anymore so I am going to hang on to this one for a while.
