Extended warranty on 2016 GLE300d
I've had my 300d for about 6 months. I'm about to roll over 40,000 miles (27,000 at purchase). I drive a lot for work, hence my affinity for diesels. Very impressed with mileage, routinely getting 29-30 mpg avg on lots of highway driving. I've got another year and 10,000 before the factory runs out. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on an extended warranty? Any long term problems to be aware of with this model?

I have an E250 and I've got a factory 100K mile warranty. I'm sitting at 75K and the car has been excellent. The only issue I had is the car rejecting the key (one time). They fixed that under warranty. In fact, I like the drivetrain so much, that I just bought a GLE 300d with 30K miles. The 300d has the same engine and transmission. On the E250, I routinely get 42+ miles to the gallon on the highway.
I'm doing oil every 5K miles, and air and fuel filters at twice the factory specifications. I just changed the transmission fluid/filter on the E, and I'll do it on the GLE in a couple of years.
I am considering buying an extended warranty on the 300d as well, I'll wait a little to decide because I still have some factory warranty remaining.
I do worry about the diesel emission controls. We'll need to read the fine print on any warranty to make sure the DPF and the DEF tank/heater are included. That's the stuff I have concerns about down the road.
Please share you analysis, and let us know if you do it or not (and why). I think it's likely though that I'll buy an extended warranty. I would only buy it from Mercedes directly, I would never consider any third party warranty.
Good luck.

I also have a 2016 GLE 300d which just turned 71,000 and it has been trouble free. I too got it for long distance drives. In my case between Northern California and Ventura County in the South and have been averaging 31 to 32 mpg when I don't drive really crazy (85 - 90) and then I get 28 to 29 mpg. Nice highway cruiser.
